As the breeding operation for the wider business, Siberia Station supplies forward store stock into the finishing properties in the Rangitikei. It is a key part of the overall business model. The property is well appointed with excellent infrastructure and offers steep hill country mustering where horses are used on a daily basis.

Job Title: Station Manager

Position Overview: This is a working Station Manager position requiring you to manage all aspects of the day-to-day running of the station. You will require some experience in this type of farming environment including mustering steep hill country on horseback. You will be leading a team of 3-4 staff. The role requires a strong team of 6 working dogs.

The Station farming policies are set to fit with the extended farming business. This extensive farming operation breeds their sheep replacements and all additional stock is sent to the finishing properties in the Rangitikei. The cattle policy is to buy in and grow out 2 year steers and when they are ready these are sent to one of the finishing properties.

You will be working closely with the Farm Owner to plan and manage the stock movements between Siberia Station and the finishing properties. With seasonal climatic conditions you will be required to have flexibility and a nimble mind-set to work with the finishing properties and understand market opportunities and store options.

The finishing operation is a large part of the farming business; you will be given an in depth overview to help you understand the expectation from the breeding station.

Papanui Junction Primary School works in with both the and Primary Schools to counter the effect of being smaller rural schools.

 Main woolshed - 8 stand with 3000 night pen capacity  Back woolshed - 6 stand with 3000 night pen capacity which runs off a generator. This is 4 km from the front of the station. Lambs are trucked out from this woolshed.  5 stand woolshed with 1000 night pen capacity.

On the main station, there are 3 sets of satellite yards with covered drench race and dagging pen.

Farm Policy & Systems

Stock - Breeds/Number: Sheep 15,000 MA ewes 4,000 Hoggets 1,000 6 year old ewes put in lamb, in June they are sent to the finishing farm to lamb.

Cattle – Traditional cattle 1,400 steers brought in at 450kg, at 550-600kg they are sent to the finishing properties, finished to 700kg – dependent on market & season. 150 Angus cows (new to the system this year).

Siberia Station runs a stallion with 7 or 8 broodmares breeding their own stock horses – running about 40 horses.

Stock Policy: Breeding Finishing Dry hoggets to the finishing properties, 2th ewes sent back to Siberia to lamb. 3000-5000 lambs killed off mum and up to 13,000 lambs sent to the finishing properties by mid to the end of January. Steers sent to finishing properties at approximately 550kg.

Weaning Dates: Lambs They get between 3000-5000 milk lambs off mum. By 15th January 13,000 lambs sent to finishing properties but this does depend on the season, need to be flexible.
