Missing Something?—Check our LOST & FOUND!

Lots of items have already found their way to our lost and found cabinet. Please have your students check in the lower level to recover any of their missing items. Labeling your child’s items with his/her name also helps in getting them back to you!

ARE YOU WEATHER READY? As colder weather sets in, please make sure your student is dressed appropriately to play outdoors. Bluemont has outdoor recess for all students unless the temperature (or wind chill) falls below 20 º Fahrenheit. This means students will need gloves and hats to wear along with their masks and warm coats. Please label their clothing and regularly check our lost and found. And if you need help securing cold weather gear, please contact our Social Worker, Mrs. Jessica Sholin—she and her intern, Ms. Kassidi are a fantastic resource! Also, when there is snow outside, students will need to be wearing boots in order to leave the blacktop area and play on the equipment. Recess and fresh air are important —even when it’s cold. Thanks for your help in making it both fun and safe!

Thank you to everyone who visited our Online Book Fair site this month and supported Bluemont School. A special thanks to PTO member, Doug Gurgel, for once again donating his time to set up and run the book fair. You truly are a gem. . Books make the perfect gift and encourage a lifelong love of reading, imagination and learning. THANK YoU FoR BRINGING THE PUMPKIN PATCH To US!

Bluemont students experienced an awesome pumpkin patch in our front school yard last week. Due to Covid-19, field trips to the pumpkin patch are not permitted this year. Our fabulous PTO got creative and found some very generous sponsors to help with the cost. A & H Farm delivered pumpkins on two separate days for our hybrid learning groups. Each student got to pick out a pumpkin to take home and decorate! We want to extend a very special thanks to our PTO board as well as to the following generous sponsors:

Live Virtual Events: 11/5/20 and 11/9/20, 6-7 p.m.— these will also be recorded; consult USD web site for links. Open House Event: 11/10/20 at 7:00 p.m. (, East Campus Auditorium and Cafeteria, 901 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502)

WHY ARE WE REDISTRICTING IN MANHATTAN?

• Current USD 383 elementary and middle school attendance zones have been in place since the Fall of 2012 and should be reexamined. • The new Oliver Brown Elementary School is set to open in the Fall of 2021. • The relocation of sixth grade students from elementary schools to middle schools will also be a significant change for the 2021-2022 school year. • We want to make sure student/teacher ratios are equitable at schools across the district.

The USD 383 Board of Education met last night to vote on whether or not our district will continue in hybrid mode or if we will move to another instructional mode. After examining a number of factors, the Board voted 5-2 to REMAIN in our existing hybrid delivery mode at least through our Winter Break. Thus, there will be no changes to instructional days until at least January 5, 2021. The Board will examine and discuss risk factors, and vote on this topic again closer to that timeframe.

At Bluemont, our first priority is to always do what we can to provide a safe and secure learning environment for our students and teachers. We also want to help students and their families to thrive in this delivery format. We are working with Boys & Girls Club to improve our remote learning support structure. If you have ideas or suggestions that will help to improve our supports for at-home learning, please share them with your student’s teacher at next week’s conferences. Thank you!

For more details on last night’s Board meeting, please visit our web site at www.usd383.org.
