Lots of items have already found their way to our lost and found cabinet. Please have your students check in the lower level to recover any of their missing items. Labeling your child’s items with his/her name also helps in getting them back to you! ARE YOU WEATHER READY? As colder weather sets in, please make sure your student is dressed appropriately to play outdoors. Bluemont has outdoor recess for all students unless the temperature (or wind chill) falls below 20 º Fahrenheit. This means students will need gloves and hats to wear along with their masks and warm coats. Please label their clothing and regularly check our lost and found. And if you need help securing cold weather gear, please contact our Social Worker, Mrs. Jessica Sholin—she and her intern, Ms. Kassidi are a fantastic resource! Also, when there is snow outside, students will need to be wearing boots in order to leave the blacktop area and play on the equipment. Recess and fresh air are important —even when it’s cold. Thanks for your help in making it both fun and safe! Thank you to everyone who visited our Online Book Fair site this month and supported Bluemont School. A special thanks to PTO member, Doug Gurgel, for once again donating his time to set up and run the book fair. You truly are a gem. . Books make the perfect gift and encourage a lifelong love of reading, imagination and learning. THANK YoU FoR BRINGING THE PUMPKIN PATCH To US! Bluemont students experienced an awesome pumpkin patch in our front school yard last week. Due to Covid-19, field trips to the pumpkin patch are not permitted this year. Our fabulous PTO got creative and found some very generous sponsors to help with the cost. A & H Farm delivered pumpkins on two separate days for our hybrid learning groups. Each student got to pick out a pumpkin to take home and decorate! We want to extend a very special thanks to our PTO board as well as to the following generous sponsors: Thank you Papa Johns (west side) for sponsoring our October 8th Dine Out Night and donating a percentage of the night’s proceeds to the Bluemont PTO! Mention or show this flyer and the Bobcats will get 10% of the evening’s sales! Please spread the word! Click on this link to order a variety of snazzy Bobcat gear. Draft for Institutional Representative Review – Please Respond by 3 March 2017 Population Analysis & Breeding and Transfer Plan Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) AZA Species Survival Plan® Yellow Program AZA Species Survival Plan® Coordinator Adrienne Crosier, PhD, Smithsonian’s Conservation Biology Institute – Center for Species Survival, ([email protected]) & AZA Studbook Keeper Erin Moloney, Busch Gardens, ([email protected]) AZA Population Advisor John Andrews, Population Management Center ([email protected]) 1 February 2017 Draft for Institutional Representative Review – Please Respond by 3 March 2017 Executive Summary 2017 Species Survival Plan® for the Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) The Cheetah SSP population currently consists of 315 cats (151 males, 164 females) at 59 facilities (55 AZA, 4 non- AZA) as of 18 January 2017. Currently, there are thirteen cheetahs (9.4) held at non-AZA facilities. The target population size set by the Felid Taxon Advisory Group is 300 in the 2009 Regional Collection Plan. The population currently qualifies as a Yellow SSP Program. Current gene diversity for the managed population is 97.27% and is equivalent to the genetic diversity of a population descended from approximately 18 founders (FGE = 18.34). The standard genetic goal for AZA managed populations is to maintain 90% gene diversity for 100 years. When gene diversity falls below 90% (and average inbreeding increases), it is expected that reproduction will be increasingly compromised by, among other factors, lower birth weights, smaller litter sizes, and greater neonatal mortality. Under potential conditions, with a growth rate of 0% (lambda = 1.00), gene diversity can be maintained at or above 90% gene diversity for at least 50 years.
