QUOTE FROM THE COMMUNITY

“As the Cape Indigenous Mayors Alliance works continue we hope to be able to keep our community roads open for a longer period.” Ralph Kendall Mayor of Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council 16 February 2017 CIMA Works on the Napranum boat ramp

CIMA Works are progressing in Napranum, with marine works on the foreshore being Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council’s (NASC) main focus between now and September 2017.

The wash-down slab for the Napranum boat ramp is complete and carpark works for the facility are ongoing, weather permitting.

The works are being undertaken by NASC, with Indigenous staff completing half of the total hours worked between October and May 2017.

CIMA Works in Napranum also include extending the protective seawall and improving the boat ramp to allow all-weather and tide access.

Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire Council (WWASC) has made some excellent progress on the upgrade of various water and sewerage treatment infrastructure, with completion of their System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) works and construction of six pump stations, which are now operational.

Earthworks began in November 2016 on the China Camp Road upgrade being delivered by WWASC, as part of their CIMA Works. The earthworks were halted due to the wet season and are scheduled to resume in mid-July 2017, once adjacent works by Cook Shire Council have been completed.

Other CIMA Works in Wujal Wujal in 2017 include plans to upgrade the boat ramp and construct a community municipal waste transfer station.

The work is providing safer, all-weather roads for remote Indigenous communities, with economic development and continued education and training opportunities for local Indigenous staff. All CIMA Works are scheduled for completion by 30 June 2019.
