ATLANTA HAWKS SELECT DENNIS SCHROEDER AND ACQUIRE IN FIRST ROUND OF 2013 NBA DRAFT Atlanta also obtains Bucknell’s and from the Mavs and two future second round picks

ATLANTA, GA ----- The selected Dennis Schroeder from Germany with the 17 th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft and acquired the draft rights to Brazilian Lucas Nogueira (16 th overall), forward/center Mike Muscala from Bucknell and guard Jared Cunningham from the in exchange for the draft rights to (18 th overall).

Atlanta also acquired two future draft picks: a 2015 second round pick from the in exchange for the draft rights to (47 th overall pick) and a conditional 2017 second rounder from Miami for the draft rights to James Ennis.

Nogueira (new-GAY-ruh), a 7-0 center from Brazil, has played professionally for four seasons (2009-13) with Asefa Estudiantes Madrid II and Asefa Estudiantes Madrid in Spain after spending his early teenage years at Central Club in Niteroi, Brazil. He averaged 5.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 13.3 minutes in 32 games (.664 FG%, .674 FT%) last season with Asefa Estudiantes Madrid in the Spanish ACB league.

"Lucas has a tremendous level of talent and charisma,” said Hawks President of Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry. “He can do things with his length, athletically, protecting the rim and finishing around the rim. He has a good understanding of the game and is a good teammate."

The 20-year-old has additional international experience as a member of Brazil’s U-18 National Team, helping the club to a second place finish at the 2011 FIBA Americas U-18 Championship in San Antonio, TX. Nogueira also played for the World Select Team, facing off against the U.S. Junior National Team at the 2011 .

Schroeder (Shroe-derr), a 6-foot-1 point guard from Germany, has played professionally in Germany since 2009-10. The four-year veteran most recently was a member of the New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig in the country’s top league, the Beko League. He put up 11.9 points, 3.3 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 24.7 minutes in 31 games (.424 FG%, .402 3FG%, .838 FT%) last season.

"Dennis is tenacious and athletic,” said Ferry. “He's a highly competitive, two-way player and I think he can have a really good future in the NBA with hard work, development and opportunity.”

The 20-year-old has represented Germany in junior national play in the 2012 U-20 Euros and the 2011 U-18 Euros, and was also a member of the World Select Team at the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit.

A four-year letterman at Bucknell, Muscala (muss-KAL-uh) finished his career first on the school’s all-time scoring list (2,036 points), and second in rebounds (1,093) and blocks (271). He was named the Patriot League Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year as a senior, while also garnering First Team All-Patriot League and Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America honors, after averaging 18.7 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and 2.3 assists in 31.7 minutes in 34 games (.509 FG%, .453 3FG%, .789 FT%). In 133 career games, the 6-11 forward/center tallied 15.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.6 in assists in 28.7 minutes (.501 FG%, .435 3FG%, .819 FT%). Muscala, 21, is a native of St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

"Mike's a complete player,” said Ferry. “We're excited he was there for us to pick and look forward to working with him."

As a rookie last season with Dallas, Cunningham averaged 2.0 points in 3.3 minutes in eight contests (.429 FG%, 2-3 3FGs, 2-2 FTs), while also seeing action in 15 games (13 starts) for the Legends of the NBA Development League, where he put up 15.3 points, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals in 34.5 minutes.

He was originally drafted by Cleveland with the 24 th pick of the first round in 2012 NBA Draft as an early-entry candidate before his rights were traded to the Mavericks on draft night. A three-year letterman at State, Cunningham was named All-Pac 12 First Team as a junior after averaging 17.9 points and leading the conference with 2.53 steals per game.
