Chicaggo Wolves Game Notes 2020-21 Chicago Wolves Game Notes GRAND RAPIDS AT CHICAGO APRIL 1, 2021 2 P.M. AHLTV.COM A SPECIAL GUEST STAR: NO FOOLIN’! 2020-21 The Chicago Wolves are riding a four-game winning streak that has featured a different goaltender — TALE OF THE TAPE Beck Warm, Jeremy Helvig, Antoine Bibeau and Devin Cooley — in the net for each victory. REGULAR-SEASON SERIES As the Central Division-leading Wolves try to stretch their winning streak to five — and to extend their 0-4-0-0 Grand Rapids | 4-0-0-0 Chicago seven-point division lead over the second-place Grand Rapids Griffins — they are summoning yet LAST MEETING Feb. 28, 2021 another goaltender...and it’s one quite familiar to the visiting team. Prior to today’s game, the Carolina Hurricanes loaned veteran goaltender Petr Mrazek to the Wolves as part of a conditioning stint. The 29-year-old Ostrava, Czech Republic, native entered this season as Carolina’s top goaltender, but he has not played since injuring his right thumb on Jan. 30 against 8-4-2-0 12-2-0-1 the Dallas Stars. Mrazek, who required surgery, owns a 2-1-0 record, a 0.99 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage in four games for the Canes this season. AHLTV.COM GOING FOR GREATNESS 2020-21 As the Chicago Wolves and the Rockford IceHogs wrap up their four-game set over a 12-day stretch TALE OF THE TAPE (the Wolves also found time to face the Grand Rapids Griffins once), it’s intriguing to chart how the current Wolves compare with some of the great teams of the franchise’s past. REGULAR-SEASON SERIES 0-6-0-0 Rockford | 6-0-0-0 Chicago With their 4-2 win over the IceHogs Saturday night in Hoffman Estates, the Wolves improved their LAST MEETING April 3, 2021 record to 14-2-0-1. The only Wolves team that can match that is the 2007-08 crew that led the American Hockey League from start to finish on the way to hoisting the Calder Cup. John Anderson’s 2007-08 squad actually rolled out to a 13-0-1-0 start — their only defeat a 1-0 overtime loss to a Milwaukee Admirals team backstopped by Pekka Rinne. They then dropped two out of three 6-12-1-0 14-2-0-1 games, which moved them to the 14-2-1-0 record that equals the current team. SERIES LEADERS While the 2007-08 and the 2021 teams boast the same record, it’s not easy to compare the two — and not just because of this year’s shorter schedule with fewer opponents and less travel. LAST MEETING March 8, 2020 But with the juniors on hold until further notice due to COVID-19, four 19-year-olds — Seth Jarvis, Jamieson Rees, Ryan Suzuki and Phil Tomasino — found themselves in the thick of the action during the Wolves’ 3-1 victory over the Griffins that served as their professional debuts. Each youngster was placed on a different line with more experienced players. But when the power plays came... 0-0-0-0 1-0-0-0 Jarvis, who turned 19 Monday, delivered the game-winning goal when he deposited a power-play goal past Griffins goaltender Pat Nagle at the 2:09 mark of the second period.
