SITE FACILITATOR: /RETREAT (PAYCLASS 8 / FULL-TIME) SITE FACILITATOR: (PAYCLASS 8 / PART-TIME) PRIMARY HEALTH CARE DIRECTORATE FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

UCT’s Primary Health Care Directorate (PHCD) seeks to appoint a permanent full-time Site Facilitator: Grassy Park/Retreat as well as a permanent part-time (25 hours per week) Site Facilitator: Heideveld from the 1st January 2015.

The main purpose of these positions is to facilitate students’ learning and to coordinate their learning activities within a particular community site. The majority of the work relates to the MBChB 4th year course but also includes a role in the Becoming a Health Professional (BHP) course as well as roles in relation to any undergraduate Health Sciences student with academic activities within the assigned community site. The job involves working both very independently and as a member of a team comprising other Site Facilitators, academics, clinicians, Site Coordinators and departmental administrators.

Responsibilities:  Facilitate students’ learning on-site and on campus  Identify research topics in consultation with government, NGO and community stakeholders  Provide students with supervision, guidance and support for projects on site  Liaise with course convenors, research supervisors and administrators  Assess students’ health promotion projects  Ensure students’ complete their end-of-block evaluations  Perform related administrative tasks

Requirements:  A higher certificate in health, social sciences or adult education (or equivalent - i.e. recognition of prior learning) at minimum NQF level 5  At least 3 years’ experience in fieldwork/project supervision in community-based projects  Experience in applying the principles of adult learning, community development, community participation, community partnerships and working with communities  Student guidance, supervision, support, monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement skills  Communication and partner and stakeholder relations management  Administrative and coordination skills  Data collection and information management  Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative and be proactive  Good time-management skills and the capacity and willingness to work independently  Preparedness to learn and develop  Computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel and email)  Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking and writing skills  Ability to work in a team, to show initiative and to deliver to timelines  A mature and professional attitude  A valid driver’s license and a preparedness to travel  Proficiency in English and the ability to speak and/or isiXhosa

The following would be advantageous:  Experience in working with tertiary level students  Basic research skills  Knowledge of the District Health System  Understanding of a primary health care approach and health promotion  Understanding of diversity  Advocacy and policy development skills  Health and safety awareness

The annual remuneration in 2014, including benefits for the full-time Site Facilitator: Grassy Park/Retreat post is between R232 286 - R273 260.

The annual remuneration in 2014, including benefits for the part-time (5/8ths) Site Facilitator: Heideveld post is between R154 857 – R182 173, depending on skills and experience.
