  • 25 Misunderstood Rules in High School Basketball
25 Misunderstood Rules in High School Basketball 1. There is no 3-second count between the release of a shot and the control of a rebound, at which time a new count starts. 2. A player can go out of bounds, and return inbounds and be the first to touch the ball l! Comment: This is not the NFL. You can be the first to touch a ball if you were out of bounds. 3. There is no such thing as “over the back”. There must be contact resulting in advantage/disadvantage. Do not put a tall player at a disadvantage merely for being tall 4. “Reaching” is not a foul. There must be contact and the player with the ball must have been placed at a disadvantage. 5. A player can always recover his/her fumbled ball; a fumble is not a dribble, and any steps taken during recovery are not traveling, regardless of progress made and/or advantage gained! (Running while fumbling is not traveling!) Comment: You can fumble a pass, recover it and legally begin a dribble. This is not a double dribble. If the player bats the ball to the floor in a controlling fashion, picks the ball up, then begins to dribble, you now have a violation. 6. It is not possible for a player to travel while dribbling. 7. A high dribble is always legal provided the dribbler’s hand stays on top of the ball, and the ball does not come to rest in the dribblers’ hand. Comment: The key is whether or not the ball is at rest in the hand.

  • Since Blazing Into a New Era with the Opening of the Colorado Springs
Since blazing into a new era with the opening of the Colorado Springs World Arena in January 1998, Tiger Hockey has continued to solidify its position among the nation’s most elite Division I programs. With six league titles, 16 home-ice playoff berths and a dozen NCAA tournament bids tucked away since 1994, Colorado College keeps adding chapter after chapter to its fabled history. CC’s recent string of success, which includes last season’s appearance in the national quarterfinals preceded by trips to the “Frozen Four” in 1996, 1997 and 2005, speaks volumes for the modern-day version of a program that has spanned eight decades. Sure, when Scott Owens took over as head coach in 1999, he inherited a perennial powerhouse. But where does the tale really begin? How has little Colorado College, a private liberal arts and sciences college with an enrollment of less than 2,000 students, maintained such elite status in a sport filled with Division I giants? TWO CONCEPTS COME TO MIND: Tradition. From its pre-World War II roots, to its hosting of the first 10 NCAA Tournaments and co-founding of the WCHA, the school has influenced college hockey's growth from infancy. Commitment. Proving that academic and athletic excellence can co-exist in a small campus environment, CC has relied on vision, hard work and creativity to revive a program that many others nationwide now envy. THE EARLY YEARS Colorado College Hockey got its start in January of 1938, when the Broadmoor Hotel converted its seldom-used indoor riding academy into an ice rink.

Swayman was also named to the CCM/AHCA All-American First Team and was a Hobey Hat Trick Finalist. Swayman is the fourth player in Hockey East history to collect the award in its seven-year history. Earlier this year, Swayman was named the 2019-20 Hockey East Player of the Year, the first Maine goaltender to win Hockey East’s top individual honor and the first Black Bear to be so named since Spencer Abbot in 2011-12. During the Hockey East regular season, Swayman led the league in saves (782), save percentage (.932) and tied for the lead in shut outs (3) while his 12 wins in Hockey East tied for second. The junior’s 782 saves in conference action is the 10th-most of any goaltender in league history and the highest single-season total since 2010-11.
