DEPARTMENMENT OTF O STATEF STATE INL INTERNATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE UNITED NATIONS The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) actively seeks experienced, qualified law enforcement professionals for two types of positions in the Division (UNPOL):

1 US CONTRIBUTIONS TO UN PEACEKEEPING MISSIONS: 2 PROFESSIONAL POLICE POSITIONS WITH THE UN: Mid- to senior-level positions in the areas of Positions as UN employees, assigned to UN headquarters administration, Management, and leadership as U.S. in New York, UN regional offices, or in UN peacekeeping contributions to UNPOL components of UN peacekeeping missions overseas, are competed among UN Member missions overseas. Assignments are for one year; States. U.S. candidates are selected for nomination to the UN by the U.S. Department of State. Assignments are for one to two years.

NOMINATIONS BY THE US DEPARTMENT OF STATE Positions for senior professional subject matter experts often require specialized police experience in UN missions overseas, or in UN administrative offices. Candidates are endorsed by the U.S. Department of State through a formal diplomatic process and, if selected by the UN, are hired directly into the UN human resources system as UN employees on temporary appointments of one to two years. If selected, officers serve at UN headquarters in New York; the Standing Police Capacity facility in Brindisi, Italy; or in a current UN peacekeeping mission around the world. UNITED NATIONS REQUIREMENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL-LEVEL POSITIONS:

INL is seeking serving, former, and recently retired U.S. law enforcement professionals with the experience and skills to be competitive for international assignments. Competitive applicants for UN service should meet the following UN minimum criteria:

+ Age range of 25-62 years, with a preference for candidates under 55;

+ More than five years of experience as a sworn law enforcement official, excluding academy training;

+ Active service within the last five years;

+ Graduation from a certified police academy, IN ADDITION TO UN REQUIREMENTS, INL SEEKS or other law enforcement training institution INDIVIDUALS WITH THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS: or program; + Knowledge of a language (in addition to English) identified by the UN as a + Bachelor’s degree from a four-year critical requirement for the position; accredited academic institution; and + Master’s degree or equivalent in the applied sciences, social sciences, or + Willing to relocate. other relevant field from an accredited university or academic institution;
