They have all of their books and other requirements. It is okay to forget stuff, occasionally. A good student is prepared to be helpful. They need to be prepared to work with people they aren’t friends with. This will help advance them for being adults. You don’t pick who you work with, unless you are the boss, so lighten up a little and enjoy working with that person. Polite A good student is polite. They always use their manners. Saying please, and thank you in the lunchline or when a teacher gives you something is a great way to start. If you bump into someone say sorry, even if it isn’t your fault. Smile when someone gives you a compliment and say thank you. When asking someone a question make sure you say thank you when they give you an answer. Punctual A good student is always on time. Entering and sitting before the bell rings. In P.E, always have your gym clothes on and in your given spot. Apologizing when you are late to class is good. Making sure you turn in homework on time, should be something you do all the time. In 1621, Governor set a celebratory dinner with Winnapaug chief. Know now as the first dinner, which last three days for them. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln announced that Thanksgiving was a national holiday to be celebrated every November. The first state to have Thanksgiving was New York in 1817. When is Thanksgiving?............ Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 22 LJHS CIRCUIT RIDER November 2018 ~page 11 Facts about Black Friday ● Black Friday isn’t the busiest shopping day. ● Black Friday is the best day for deals on TVs, jewelry, and appliances. ● The average shopper on Black Friday is expected to spend $1000 this year. ● Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving ● It is considered the start of the Christmas shopping season since 1952 ● Black Friday is the busiest day for plumbers ● The countries that recognize Black Friday are the USA, Canada, UK, Mexico, Romania, India, France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and many more countries recognize this holiday. ● Black Friday was used to refer to stock market crashes in the 1800s. LJHS CIRCUIT RIDER November 2018 ~ Page 12 Facts About Veterans Day ● In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson named November 11th Armistice Day. ● The first national holiday was to celebrate Veteran’s Day was held in 1947. ● Veterans Day is an official holiday in the U.S. ● Veterans Day is celebrated annually on November 11th. ● This holiday is celebrated to honor the United States Armed Forces. ● Armistice Day was originally set as a US holiday to celebrate the end of World War I. ● Veteran’s Day is both a state and federal holiday. ● France, Britain, Canada, and Australia celebrate World War I and II veterans around November 11. LJHS CIRCUIT RIDER November 2018 ~ page 16 Interview with Mr. Denecke How do you feel about the upcoming boys’ basketball season? Mr. Denecke: I am feeling really confident. The boys have put in a lot of hard work in the off season, and I’m excited to see what they prove. How many games do you predict that the 8th and 7th grade are going to win? Mr. Denecke: I think if they reach their full potential, the sky’s the limit. Do you think we will make it to state this year? Mr Denecke: In order for that to be a possibility the boys will have to come together, work hard, and push themselves to their ultimate boundaries. What is your favorite thing about being a basketball coach? Mr. Denecke: Getting to watch the growth of the boys from day 1 until the end of the season and seeing how much improvement can be made by each of the player is what I enjoy. What are your expectations for this year? Mr. Denecke: I expect the boys to have a great attitude, show great effort, and act as a family on and off the court. Family is one thing that we stress in the program and it is something that the boys take pride in. We say “Family on 3, 1, 2, 3 Family! The closer they are on the court, the closer they are off the court.
