Main Honors Olympic Games Gold Triple Jump – 2008 Beijing (CHN) World Championships Gold Triple Jump - 2007 Osaka (JPN) Silver Triple Jump – 2009 Berlin (GER) World Indoor Championships Bronze Triple Jump – 2008 Valencia (ESP) Universiade Gold Triple Jump - 2009 Belgrade (SRB) Gold Triple Jump - 2011 Shenzhen (CHN) Athlete’s Bio Born in Côte d'Ivoire, where his parents had come to live from Cape Verde, Nelson and his family moved to Portugal when he was five years old. He still holds the Cape Verdean records in both the long jump (7.57 m) and the triple jump (16.15 m). Évora's family settled in Odivelas, on the floor above João Ganço's, a former Portugal record-holder and first man in Portugal to pass over 2m in the high jump. David Ganço, one of João Ganço's three sons, one year older than Nelson, became Évora's best friend. One day, João Ganço, seeing them playing in the street, suggested that Nelson start practicing athletics, following David's example, and, just like that, Nelson sportive career started. João Ganço then became Évora's coach. FACT SHEET University INSTITUTO POLITÉCNICO DE LISBOA – ESCOLA SUPERIOR DE COMUNICAÇÃO SOCIAL (Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon – Higher School of Social Communication) 1st Degree in Publicity and Marketing Sports Career He competed in the triple jump in the 2004 Olympics, without progressing from his pool, and finished sixth at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He finished fourth in the triple jump final and sixth in the long jump final at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Göteborg, having set a Portuguese triple jump record of 17.23m during the qualification. At the 2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships he came in fifth place. On August 27 th , 2007, he became the triple jump World champion at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics, in Osaka, Japan, establishing his personal best, Portuguese national record and second best world mark of the year at 17.74m. On March 9th , 2008, he placed third in the triple jump competition at the 2008 IAAF World Indoor Championships, in Valencia, by jumping 17.27m. On August 21 st , 2008, he edged out Phillips Idowu of Great Britain and Leevan Sands of the Bahamas to take an Olympic gold medal with a 17.67m jump. Évora set the world leading mark at the Grande Prêmio Brasil Caixa in May 2009, winning with 17.66m. He was pleased with the jump (his third best performance ever) and stated his intention to surpass the 18m mark at the forthcoming 2009 World Championships in Athletics. In mid-2009, he won the triple jump gold at the Universiade and another at the 2009 Lusophony Games. However he was unable to replicate his winning form at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, being relegated to 2nd place. After leading with a first round jump of 17.55m, the man he beat in the Olympics, Phillips Idowu was able to take the gold with a third round jump of 17.73m, the longest in world for that year. He prolonged his Universiade champion title in 2011 in Shenzhen and ended 5 th at the IAAF World Championship in Daegu. An injury kept him from defending his Olympic title in London 2012. • The Evolution of High Jumping Technique: Biomechanical Analysis
IS8S 2002. Caceres - Extremadura - Spain 3 THE EVOLUTION OF HIGH JUMPING TECHNIQUE: BIOMECHANICAL ANALYSIS Jesus Dapena Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA Over the years, high jumping technique has improved through changes in the run-up, the takeoff and the bar clearance. The straddle technique used a fast run-up and strong free limb actions during the takeoff to increase the generation of lift. The production of the angular momentum needed for the bar clearance in the Fosbury-flop technique (which replaced the straddle) is in conflict with the use of strong free limb actions during the takeoff. Fosbury-flop high jumpers compensate by using a faster run-up. Some athletes are able to generate more lift with the faster run-up and weaker free limb actions of the Fosbury-flop, while others can generate more lift with the slower run-up but stronger free limb actions of the straddle. Therefore, both techniques should be in use today. However, the straddle has disappeared, because the Fosbury-flop is much easier to learn. KEY WORDS: biomechanics, high jump, history, straddle, fosbury-flop INTRODUCTION: There was no high jumping event in the ancient Greek Olympic Games. This sport event seems to have its origin with the Celts (Tailteann Games). But modern high jumping began in Germany in the late 18th century. It started as a physical education activity for children (Fi~ure 1). It developed into a competitive sport in England in the 19t century, and soon afterward spread to Canada and to the United States. Mechanical considerations: To clear a high jump bar, it is necessary to drive the center of mass (c.m.) of the athlete to the largest height possible.

  • Difference-Based Analysis of the Impact of Observed Game Parameters on the Final Score at the FIBA Eurobasket Women 2019
Original Article Difference-based analysis of the impact of observed game parameters on the final score at the FIBA Eurobasket Women 2019 SLOBODAN SIMOVIĆ1 , JASMIN KOMIĆ2, BOJAN GUZINA1, ZORAN PAJIĆ3, TAMARA KARALIĆ1, GORAN PAŠIĆ1 1Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2Faculty of Economy, University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina 3Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, University of Belgrade, Serbia ABSTRACT Evaluation in women's basketball is keeping up with developments in evaluation in men’s basketball, and although the number of studies in women's basketball has seen a positive trend in the past decade, it is still at a low level. This paper observed 38 games and sixteen variables of standard efficiency during the FIBA EuroBasket Women 2019. Two regression models were obtained, a set of relative percentage and relative rating variables, which are used in the NBA league, where the dependent variable was the number of points scored. The obtained results show that in the first model, the difference between winning and losing teams was made by three variables: true shooting percentage, turnover percentage of inefficiency and efficiency percentage of defensive rebounds, which explain 97.3%, while for the second model, the distinguishing variables was offensive efficiency, explaining for 96.1% of the observed phenomenon. There is a continuity of the obtained results with the previous championship, played in 2017. Of all the technical elements of basketball, it is still the shots made, assists and defensive rebounds that have the most significant impact on the final score in European women’s basketball.
