MATTIE C. CARUTHERS FOUNDER & CEO, MACMATTIE ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR— PRODUCER—WRITER

An experienced, committed and creative director-producer-writer of television sitcoms, who brings a fascinating perception to original and meaningful stories.

Mattie C. Caruthers is a true veteran in the entertainment industry. Her career started in music at , where she was an assistant to Monte Kay (founder of Birdland, and manager/ producer to , , , and the ). Mattie was part of a small team working on all aspects of the record label, including artist development, publicity, and distribution for records by and , as well as groundbreaking television shows. The company acquired two Grammys and five Gold Records.

Mattie ventured into film and television where she eventually became a director, writer and producer. Her credits include Script Supervisor and Associate Director with Damon Wayans on My Wife and Kids; with Will Smith on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air; and with Jamie Foxx on The Jamie Foxx Show. She was Associate Director on Let's Stay Together, Cuts, Keenan & Kel, The Parent ‘Hood, and Sinbad. Mattie worked with Norman Lear as a writer’s assistant, and studied under the watchful eyes of some of the industry's most outstanding directors such as Andy Cadiff, Joel Zwick, Andy Ackerman, Jamie Widdoes, Shelley Jensen and Ken Whittingham. Her television directorial debut on My Wife and Kids earned Mattie a 2006 NAACP Image Award Nomination for Outstanding Director in a Comedy Series, and a 2005 BET Nomination.

Mattie has worked on a variety of hit movies, TV shows and commercials, alongside Eddie Murphy, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Pryor, Garry Marshall, Danny Glover, Charles S. Dutton, and Bill Cosby, among others. Mattie is the recipient of the 2007 Award of Achievement from the African American Film Marketplace and S.E Manly Short Film Showcase.

Mattie’s work as a writer-producer includes the screenplay of the full-featured films Black Eye Motoring, and Ring Bell Walk In. She also created the sitcom , My Sisters and Me, and directed and co-wrote the episode, “Who's Coming to Dinner,” which was produced by MacMattie Productions.

Mattie is executive producer to singer-songwriter Torin Floyd; she executive produced his “Take Me Higher” video; directed and executive produced his “Sky High” music video. She has also written and directed a short film about Torin, The Interview.

Mattie is the Founder and CEO of MacMattie Productions. The company's mission is to produce distinctive and successful films through productions centered on positive depictions of people of color. She is also a member of the Directors Guild of America.
