PREFACE This brochure attempts to present in a concise form information about the activities of the 16 Departmentally Related Standing Committees (DRSCs) during the year 2014-15 serviced by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. The main functions of DRSCs are to consider the Demands for Grants of the concerned Ministries/Departments, to examine such Bills pertaining to the concerned Ministries/Departments as are referred to the Committee, to consider any aspect of the annual reports of Ministries/Departments and to consider National Basic Long Term Policy Documents presented to the Houses and referred to the Committee. The Committees make report to the Houses on each of the matter referred to them. 2. For the sake of convenience, the information has been arranged in two parts. Part I gives a resume of the work done by each DRSC and Part II contains Appendices regarding composition of the Committees, sub-Committees, details of sittings of Committees/sub-Committees, attendance of Members and Study Tours etc. With a view to have information regarding action taken by the Government on the recommendations made by the Committees in their reports at one place, a statement showing analysis of the action taken by the Government on the recommendations of each Committee, has also been compiled and is given in Part II. 3. For ease of reference, the statistical data regarding the work done by the DRSCs is also given in the brochure. Composition of Committee 1.1 The Committee on Agriculture (2014-2015) was constituted on 01 September, 2014 and continued in Office till 31st August, 2015. 1.2 The Committee consisted of 31 members – 21 members of Lok Sabha and 10 members of Rajya Sabha nominated by the Speaker, Lok Sabha and the Chairperson, Rajya Sabha, respectively. Shri Hukm Deo Narayan Yadav, M.P. was appointed as the Chairperson of the Committee. The Composition of the Committee is given at Appendix-One. II. Subjects selected for examination 1.3 The Committee selected the following subjects for examination during the year: Sl. (ii) Mega Food Parks. III Bills referred to the Committee 1.4 No Bill was referred to the Committee during its term. IV. Constitution of Sub-Committees of the Committee on Agriculture 1.5 During the period under review, no Sub-Committee was constituted. V. Resume of Work Done (a) Sittings of the Committee: 1.6 During the period under review, the Committee held 33 sittings lasting 62 hours and 30 minutes. A statement showing the dates of Sittings of the Committee held during the period under review, the duration of the Sittings, the number of Members present and the subjects discussed is given at Appendix Seventeen. 1.7 Another statement showing the number of Sittings attended by each member of the Committee is given in Appendix Thirty-three. Whenever oral evidences were taken, verbatim record of proceedings of the Sittings was kept.
