RTC : The above lines are taken from the poem “It‟s fun to cook!”. The poet, through this poem, conveys to the readers the feeling of joy when we cook in our kitchen. The poem is written in a simple, easy, lucid and easy – flowing language, where every stanza focuses on different aspects of cooking and a new learning experience each time.

Stanza 1 : When you are ……………… into a pie

In the first stanza the poet says that when we are in the kitchen we learn to pour, measure, mix and stir different ingredients used in our recipe. We learn to sift flour without creating much mess and see it forming a conical pile.

Stanza 2 : Scrub your hands …………..the year

This stanza teaches us the good habit of cleaning up our hands before we start to cook. We collect and arrange all the necessary cook wares and utensils that we will be using while cooking which includes pots, pans, measuring cups and so on.

Stanza 3 : Go through…………………….. for you.

This stanza focuses reading our recipe well before we begin to cook and follow each and every direction as it is given in the recipe book. By doing so we would not face any difficulty in preparing our dish.

Stanza 4 : Have a hot………………………..baking a pie.

When we are about to work with the hot pads, gas stove or a baking oven, we must make sure that an adult is nearby to guide us. By doing so we would learn to handle hot objects and also prevent hurting ourselves.

Stanza 5 : Besides the fun …………….cooking too.

Another important task in the process of cooking is the cleaning up of our work counters which gets quite messed up during the entire cooking process. Although it is a regular house – hold daily task but it is very much an essential part of cooking.

Stanza 6 : But after all ……………………… cooked a winner.

In the last stanza the poet tells us that after all the work is done, it would almost be dinner time and our dish would be ready to be served. We would actually come to know that our efforts have paid off well when someone asks us to serve our dish for the second time after having finished with the first serve and that is the time when we actually feel like a winner.
