My Dear Students of Sc. Rose High School:

It was with great pleasure that I learned that you were dedicating your Yearbook co cbe Sisters of che Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, who mark this year rhe hundredth anniversary of their devored work for rhe Church. Much has been given you and much will be expected of you. le is not coo extra ordinary these days for young men and women co receive a high school education, bur the type of dedication and self-sacrifice which you have come to know in your teachers remains rare in a self-seeking world. Perhaps you do not realize ir, but virtue - like many other thmgs-- cannot be reproduced wirhour imirarion. The only way we can be brave is ro have seen brave people and to have known of brave deeds. The only way we can be honest is co meet people for whom honesty is a way of living. The only way we can really love God and our neighbor is ro meet with people who simply breathe that spirit of love in everything they do. This bas been the grcarest boon of }'Our educaci0n, nair.dy through your par ents and your teachers co have seen rhe patterns of this rype of life and to be able co reproduce it in your own. Always be grateful for your education and always be grateful to those who have done so much char you in nun might be able to give to orhers. Devotedly in Our Lord.

G. Emmert Carter, Bishop of London

OUR PASTOR'S MESSAGE

Your te:ichers, the Sisters of che Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, have witnessed che closing exercises of Catholic studenrs here in Amherstburg for one hundred suc cessive years. During those years many Sisters have contributed much to che spiritual, intellecrual and cultural life of che people of the community They have caught you to see life as it is, to see the Church as 1t is and co realize chat you have a part co play in ics life and worship. You were among the firsc co initiate acrive participation in the lirurgy in your parish church, and oow your prayer life is nor the individualistic piecy which finds expression in purely personal, often sentimen tal and theologically off-centre devotions You understand the meaning of the Mass and the Sacramenrs and know their full familial and social nature. You see faith as a full commitment of your entire person co God, as somethin8 co be lived and not merely accepted by the intellect or professed by the tongue. You see Christian morality as love of God and of neighbour expressed in living. But even all this, important as 1c is, is not enough. If you are to be a marure Cath· olic, you musl see the Oiurch as Christ. You must understand that che work of the Church is nor only to save souls, but also to help bring men and the world in which men live to full perfection Only if you have chis understanding and this knowledge will you be able co cake p:m in the work of the Church. the work of Christ, as a marure Catholic. You have the foundation for this kind of maturity but a more complete formation will come only from your own individual reading and srudy, and the spiritual results from rhe Holy Spirit aaing on vou. This formation is a lifelong work - day by day, as you encounter Christ in rhe Mass and the Sacraments, commune with God in prayer, worship with your fellow mem bers of Christ and live and work with chem in daily life. May the Holy Spirit lead you in the days and ye:irs ahead to greater and greater resemblance to Christ and co your full development as a Christian man and Christian woman.

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST SCHOOL

Page 9 Our Amhersrburg mission was the tirsr offshoot of the Provincial House of the Sisceis of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary located at St. Mary's Academy in Windsor. In the face of dire poverty the foundresses served the cause of Christ in the little ones confided to their care. While reaching has been their principal work, the daughters of Mother Marie-Rose have refused no cask no matter how hard the work involved might be. When the need arose the Sisters cook in as many as forty boarders aged three co eighteen and made the best of the cramped quarters in what is the present convent. St. Joseph's Academy also housed a thriv ing commercial school 1he acrual music department serves students from our own schools as well a.~ from the surrounding areas. We rejoice with our teachers, che Sisters of the Holy Names, as they see the completion of one hundred years 1865-1965, in our com munity, exening upon young and old alike, an everlasting influence. The accompanying picrures will reJare more accurately than words some of the aaivities of the chineen sisters presently located at the Convene.

The winners went to Windsor for the county meet. There they met stiff opposition and apart from Sharon Pil lon and Bernadette Drouillard who won prizes in shot puc and discus, the girls did not emerge with any great honours. Sister Mary Ludmille Died November 20, 1964

Gaiety, kindness, devotedness - Sister Mary ludmille was rhe embodiment of them all. For most of us she was our teacher for only one year, but we will live chat year over and over again, for the impressinn she made upon us will never fade. We knew Sister loved each one of us with almost a mother's love, while we, for our pare, vied with each other in our eagerness to please her. We worked, we played, we prayed, we did everything just as we thougbc Sisrer would want us ro do ir. Sorrow filled our hearts when the Angel of Death drew her from our midst, yec we smiled through our rears when we thought of che joys now hers at the end of a life of devoted service as a Religious in God's vineyard.
