Bartow, Fla. (June 15, 2017) — Although no longer required, the Board of County Commissioners is providing you notification that a formal report was sent, via email, to [email protected].

Suspected source and cause of incident or discovery: air release valve in leachate force main from Phase III

Type of pollution, including substance or contaminant name(s): Leachate

Amount of pollution, including substance or contaminant name(s): Estimate Less than 100 gallons entered the containment area.

Any other information that may be helpful: The air release valve on the force main from Phase III appeared not to close as expected resulting in leachate discharging into the concrete secondary containment area.

Accumulated rainfall was being pumped from the containment area at the time of the air release valve failure. However, the valve is located approximately 90 feet away from the sump, and there was no indication that the leachate reached the sump. The sump pump was immediately turned off in order to prevent a potential discharge of contaminated rainwater from the sump area.
