  • TAAAC ACTION REPORT Your Professional Organization
TAAAC ACTION REPORT Your Professional Organization Vol. 47, Number 5 Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County, An MSEA/NEA Affiliate January 2015 National Survey: Anne Arundel County Teachers Highly Paid What Hogwash!! Over recent weeks, the Baltimore Sun and The Capital referenced a study conducted by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) that ranked Anne Arundel County Teachers as the 11th highest paid in the Country. In actuality, Anne Arundel County does not even pay its teachers as well as most of its immediate neighbors. Of the 113 school districts studied, only four other Maryland districts were included. Those districts were ranked in surprising positions as well. They were Baltimore City (25th), Baltimore County (56th), Montgomery County (106th, odd for the highest paying Maryland district by wide margin), and Prince George’s County (115th). The consistently high-paying districts of Calvert and Howard were not considered. The study’s results were published in a report entitled Smart Money, dated December 2014. A review of it re- vealed clear reasons such a study could lead to such incredibly specious conclusions. The rankings were determined by reviewing salary scales of the districts considered, adjusting those salaries to reflect local cost-of-living; then considering first the projected 30-year earnings, and considering second the year it would take to reach a $75K salary. Critical flaws included: 1. The data came from outdated salary scales. The 2013-14 salary scales were the basis for determining how teachers are paid currently. The salary scales for Anne Arundel (and possibly) is no longer in existence.

  • Title: the Distribution of an Illustrated Timeline Wall Chart and Teacher's Guide of 20Fh Century Physics
REPORT NSF GRANT #PHY-98143318 Title: The Distribution of an Illustrated Timeline Wall Chart and Teacher’s Guide of 20fhCentury Physics DOE Patent Clearance Granted December 26,2000 Principal Investigator, Brian Schwartz, The American Physical Society 1 Physics Ellipse College Park, MD 20740 301-209-3223 [email protected] BACKGROUND The American Physi a1 Society s part of its centennial celebration in March of 1999 decided to develop a timeline wall chart on the history of 20thcentury physics. This resulted in eleven consecutive posters, which when mounted side by side, create a %foot mural. The timeline exhibits and describes the millstones of physics in images and words. The timeline functions as a chronology, a work of art, a permanent open textbook, and a gigantic photo album covering a hundred years in the life of the community of physicists and the existence of the American Physical Society . Each of the eleven posters begins with a brief essay that places a major scientific achievement of the decade in its historical context. Large portraits of the essays’ subjects include youthful photographs of Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, and Richard Feynman among others, to help put a face on science. Below the essays, a total of over 130 individual discoveries and inventions, explained in dated text boxes with accompanying images, form the backbone of the timeline. For ease of comprehension, this wealth of material is organized into five color- coded story lines the stretch horizontally across the hundred years of the 20th century. The five story lines are: Cosmic Scale, relate the story of astrophysics and cosmology; Human Scale, refers to the physics of the more familiar distances from the global to the microscopic; Atomic Scale, focuses on the submicroscopic This report was prepared as an account of work sponsored by an agency of the United States Government.

  • Decision on Joppatowne High School Limited Renovation Educational
BOARD OF EDUCATION OF HARFORD COUNTY INFORMATIONAL REPORT DECISION ON THE JOPPATOWNE HIGH SCHOOL LIMITED RENOVATION EDUCATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS JUNE 17, 2019 Background Information: A scope study was approved by the BOE December 2009. Joppatowne High School has multiple critical systemic problems. This includes major HVAC, building envelope, structural, ADA deficiencies, and safety and security issues. A project to address these issues was originally put forward to the State as a systemic renovation; however, the State would not fund multiple systemic renovations and recommended the project be put forward as a limited renovation. With a limited renovation project, HCPS can address the multiple critical systemic needs of the building while also improving the facility for educational programs such as the Homeland Security program, Child Development, Music, Science, Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and Tech Ed. Local planning for the limited renovation was approved in the FY2016 CIP. Discussion: Educational Specifications provide direction to the design team on the minimum physical and performance requirements for a project. The Educational Specifications Committee for the Joppatowne High School Limited Renovation Project included the Executive Director for Middle and High School Performance, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Planning and Construction staff, administrators from the school, and representatives of Banta Campbell Architects, Inc, the architectural firm responsible for the design. Content supervisors, as well as representatives of Harford County Parks and Recreation also participated in this process. Additionally, at the April 15th PTSA meeting, the scope of the project was presented and discussion with parents, teachers, and staff of Joppatowne High School. The Educational Specifications for recently constructed high schools, as well as Havre de Grace Middle/High School were used as a reference.
