    MEDIA RELEASE MARCH 2, 2017 AUSTRALIA’S FASTEST RUNNERS TO CHALLENGE RECORDS ON THE SUNSHINE COAST Australia’s fastest male and female distance runners will not only vie for line honours at this year’s 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon, but a $25,000 pay day if they break the country’s long- standing half marathon record. Two-time Olympian, Collis Birmingham and Australia’s fastest current female marathoner Cassie Fien will be on the start line for the half marathon on Sunday August 20. 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon event director and Atlas Multisports founder Jason Crowther said the event had attracted national and international runners previously but it was a first to incentivise Australian runners to try and set a new record on home soil. He said the event’s out and back flat beachfront course from Alexandra Headland to Maroochydore had gained a reputation for being fast and was now on the radar of Australia’s running elite. “We’ve seen some extremely fast times across all distances since we started in 2012,” Crowther said. “This course has proven itself to be fast and with an increasing number of elite runner entries we felt it was time to give the half marathon record a shake. “With a significant financial incentive and the best of Australia’s distance runners on the start line we’re expecting to see a red hot race.” Crowther said the one lap 21.1km course was designed to be enjoyed by all runners but also to appeal to competitive athletes who had specific goal times.

Kebede and Kiplagat accent an international elite field that represents the global road to Rio de Janeiro. Many athletes hope to use the 2015 Chicago Marathon as a springboard (via qualifying times and notable performances) to representing their countries at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. Chicago marks the site of Kebede’s 2012 marathon personal best (2:04:38) and his sole victory in three attempts down the homestretch on Columbus Drive. His 2010 epic, head-to-head battle against the late Sammy Wanjiru is considered by many to be one of the most courageous marathon duels of all time. On the women’s side, Kenya’s Florence Kiplagat comes back to Chicago after finishing in 2:25:57 last year. Kiplagat has something no other woman in the field has: the half marathon world record. The 2010 IAAF World Half Marathon champion and the 2011 and 2013 Berlin Marathon champion broke her own half marathon world record in February, clocking a remarkable 1:05:09 in Barcelona (she also set the 15K and 20K world records en route).

Day 1: Cedric Dubler and Ashley 100m Run, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, Moloney show true Aussie 400m Run. Day 2: 110m Hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin, 1500m Run. Particular care for spirit at the Tokyo Olympics Cedric’s hamstring needed to be taken in Long Jump and Hurdles. He passed them very well. However, Cedric didn't pass the Pole Vault, which meant he could have abandoned the games, like Damian Warner (Canada) did at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. But no, Cedric decided to continue! He teamed up with Ash, who was by now one of the leading three athletes. Together they worked out a strategy to get Ash in-time in the 1500m race to win the Bronze medal. Cedric acted as a pacer for Ash and roared at him to speed up at the end, to beat the other 2 bronze medal contenders by a few seconds. What a show of true Aussie mateship. Plus it is the first olympic Cedric Dubler urges Ashley Moloney on in the final medal for Australian decathlon! Huge congrats event of the decathlon. SSQ member Cedric Dubler finished his Cedric’s selfless act was immediately praised on Olympic Decathlon in a way nobody could have mainstream media and this subsequently went viral predicted.
