Big Business And Conservative Groups Helped Bolster The Sedition Caucus’ Coffers During The Second Fundraising Quarter Of 2021 Executive Summary During the 2nd Quarter Of 2021, 25 major PACs tied to corporations, right wing Members of Congress and industry trade associations gave over $1.5 million to members of the Congressional Sedition Caucus, the 147 lawmakers who voted to object to certifying the 2020 presidential election. This includes: • $140,000 Given By The American Crystal Sugar Company PAC To Members Of The Caucus. • $120,000 Given By Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s Majority Committee PAC To Members Of The Caucus • $41,000 Given By The Space Exploration Technologies Corp. PAC – the PAC affiliated with Elon Musk’s SpaceX company. Also among the top PACs are Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and the National Association of Realtors. Duke Energy and Boeing are also on this list despite these entity’s public declarations in January aimed at their customers and shareholders that were pausing all donations for a period of time, including those to members that voted against certifying the election. The leaders, companies and trade groups associated with these PACs should have to answer for their support of lawmakers whose votes that fueled the violence and sedition we saw on January 6. Leader McConnell once again selected Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) to chair the Senate Republicans’ Committee on Committees, the panel responsible for committee assignments for the 117th Congress. This is the ninth consecutive Congress in which Senate leadership has asked Crapo to lead this important task among Senate Republicans. March 20, 2020 The Honorable Shelley Moore Capito The Honorable Jon Tester Chairwoman Ranking Member Subcommittee on Homeland Security Subcommittee on Homeland Security Senate Committee on Appropriations Senate Committee on Appropriations Dear Chairwoman Capito and Ranking Member Tester: As the Subcommittee begins deliberations on the Fiscal Year 2021 Homeland Security Appropriations Act, we write to respectfully request that the U.S.-Israel Homeland Security Program receive an appropriation of $2 million. Israel has emerged as a global leader in developing technologies for homeland security. Recognizing Israel’s expertise, the United States is partnering with Israel through the U.S.-Israel Homeland Security Program to advance first responder technologies; secure critical infrastructure and public facilities; provide maritime, aviation, and border security; and prevent and respond to cyber-attacks. The Program is administered by the U.S.-Israel Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate and the Israel Ministry of Public Security. Congress has supported the Program for years, having provided its initial authorization through the United States- Israel Advanced Research Partnership Act of 2016, P.L. 114-304. The U.S.-Israel Homeland Security Program received $2 million in Fiscal Year 2020, and is leveraged by Israeli funding. Examples of recent bilateral projects that support the U.S. homeland security mission include development of an unmanned search and rescue system to find victims under ruins and in disaster areas by locating their cellular phones, a wearable indoor positioning system that first responders can use when GPS and other satellite-based technologies fail, and an artificial intelligence-based analytics video security solution used to protect public facilities. -

Join the Rare Disease Congressional Caucus The bipartisan and bicameral Rare Disease Congressional Caucus is led by Representatives G. K. Butterfield (D-NC) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), and Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) to promote awareness of rare disease issues. Background: There are over 7,000 rare disorders that together affect more than 30 million Americans and their families. Rare or orphan diseases are defined as diseases affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the United States. Many rare diseases are considered ultra-rare; some affect fewer than 100 people. Rare diseases include rare cancers, tropical or neglected diseases, genetic diseases and many pediatric diseases including cancers. Many of these diseases are life-threatening and have no treatment options. The Orphan Drug Act was enacted in 1983 to incentivize pharmaceutical companies to develop therapies for diseases that have relatively small patient populations. Despite the success of the Orphan Drug Act, 93% of rare diseases still do not have a treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The science exists for many of these diseases to be treated; however, treatments may never be developed because of roadblocks in the development process, such as a lack of investment and a challenging regulatory environment. Additionally, while relatively few treatments have been approved, patients struggle with health insurance reimbursement and other coverage barriers that prohibit access to potentially lifesaving treatments. Solution: The Rare Disease Congressional Caucus helps bring public and Congressional awareness to the unique needs of the rare disease community (including patients, physicians, scientists, and industry), and creates opportunities to address barriers to the development of and access to life-altering treatments. -
