Archway Foundation Donates $4,000 to Celebration Playground Capital Campaign

The Archway Foundation, founded by Clayton’s Chris Archer, donated $4,000 to the capital campaign for the Celebration Playground. The Clayton High School graduate pitches for the in Major League ’s .

Archer—who honed his athletic skills in Clayton Parks & Recreation programs—presented the check to Clayton Councilman Michael Grannis, Clayton Parks & Recreation Director Larry Bailey and Clayton Recreational Foundation Finance Committee member Yvonne Futterer at the Foundation’s annual banquet in February.

The banquet, which drew over 200 people, was held at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel. Featured speakers— along with Archer—were WRAL-TV sports anchor Jeff Gravley and North Carolina State head baseball coach Elliott Avent.

Archer is expected to be a leader on the Rays’ 2015 pitching staff after fashioning a 10-9 record with a 3.33 ERA in his first full season in the major leagues in 2014.

Among the Archway Foundation’s initiatives are both providing support to deserving Clayton-area programs and supporting youth baseball teams.

Celebration Playground is the Clayton area’s first universal playground, planned to provide an opportunity for children of all abilities to play together. Designed by CLH Design, P.A., of Cary, the playground will be part of East Clayton Community Park on Glen Laurel Road in Clayton.

Previously announced corporate contributors include 11 regional Walmart and Sam’s Club locations (including Walmart of Clayton), Sheetz, Inc. and the Caterpillar Building Construction Products division.

The Finance Committee hopes to raise $600,000 for playground construction.
