Tickets go on public sale Jan. 27. Now celebrating 25 years in the music industry, Boyz II Men continues to engage audiences with its multi-octave, smooth sound that brings new life to both timeless pop classics and contemporary ballads. For this soulful evening in Norfolk's Chrysler Hall, Boyz II Men will be accompanied by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Other recent releases include Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA (2007), Love (2009) and Twenty (2011), marking their two decades in the music business. Media Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 25, 2021 Sweetland Amphitheatre to Host Steve Earle & the Dukes and Los Lobos Saturday, August 28th Tickets Available at sweetlandamp.com LaGrange, Ga. August 25, 2021 – Two incredible acts are teaming up for a fantastic night of music at Sweetland Amphitheatre Saturday, August 28th - Steve Earle & the Dukes and Los Lobos. Steve Earle & the Dukes Steve Earle is one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation. A protégé of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, he quickly became a master storyteller in his own right, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, The Pretenders, and countless others. 1986 saw the release of his debut record, Guitar Town, which shot to number one on the country charts and is now regarded as a classic of the Americana genre. Subsequent releases like The Revolution Starts...Now (2004), Washington Square Serenade (2007), and TOWNES (2009) received consecutive GRAMMY® Awards. Los Lobos The journey of Los Lobos began in 1973, as the band earned their stripes playing revved-up versions of Mexican folk music in restaurants and at parties. The band evolved in the 1980s as it tapped into L.A.’s burgeoning punk and college rock scenes. Early on, Los Lobos enjoyed critical success, winning the Grammy® for Best Mexican-American Performance for “Anselma” from its 1983 EP And a Time to Dance. In 1987 with the release of the Ritchie Valens biopic, La Bamba, the quintet’s cover of Valens’ signature song topped the charts in the U.S. -

Beethoven FESTIVAL, BERNADETTE PETERS, and BOYZ II MEN
RENEW BY APRIL 27 to get first access to the BEETHOVEN FESTIVAL, BERNADETTE PETERS, and BOYZ II MEN “Music Director Alain Trudel was on the podium, and the AUDIENCE WAS ON THEIR FEET.” The Blade Dear friends, Our work continues in the 2020-2021 season as we strive to inspire our region to come together though the performing arts. As a symphony orchestra, we aim to create musical moments that leap from time and remain forever in our memories. We aim for moments that move us all to think differently, to laugh, to love, to maybe even cry. We aim for moments that make us lean forward in our seats, hold our breath, and hold hands with the ones we love. These are the magical stories that our musicians and performers work to create. These are the moments that bring people together. It is with this in mind that we title this brochure “live art.” It has intentional dual meaning. As an adjective, we produce live art. Our musicians, dancers, and performers are the art, and it is created right before your eyes by people. It is created in the moment and can never be produced again in the same way. Because of this, live art seizes us—you, the audience—to feel, sense, and hear new things because it’s elusive and passes us by. It reminds us be present. As a verb, we live art. We experience it, and it changes us. Art can pour through us—through our fingers, our breath, and our bodies as we take it in. -
Straight No Chaser Has Had an Amazing Decade. Ten Years After
Straight No Chaser has had an amazing decade. Ten years after turning a collegiate hobby into a recording career that has taken them around the world on tour, the a cappella group tells its story through music on ONE SHOT. Their seventh LP features 16 genre-spanning songs, and 10 entertaining conversational interludes, as the members of Straight No Chaser trace their unlikely rise from an undergraduate singing group at Indiana University to a beloved Atlantic Records act with a devoted international fanbase. Along the way, Straight No Chaser has sold more than 1.6 million albums in the U.S. and amassed more than 100 million YouTube views thanks to tightly arranged songs, impeccable vocal harmonies, and a healthy sense of humor. Yet Straight No Chaser’s success was never a given—these singers have worked hard to make the most of an unexpected opportunity when they signed with Atlantic and released their first album, HOLIDAY SPIRITS, in 2008. Recorded mostly in Bloomington, Indiana, with producer Steve Lunt, the track list for ONE SHOT reflects that sense of now or never, starting with opener and first single “Motownphilly/This Is How We Do It,” an energetic mash-up of Boyz II Men and Montell Jordan. Straight No Chaser made Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It” a staple of its repertoire in collage. Adding “Motownphilly,” with its lyrics about chasing improbable success, captured the way the singers felt as undergrads. “The lyrics from the Boyz II Men song fit our experience: We dreamed about this and now we are doing it, performing all over the world,” says Randy Stine, an original member. -

Smooth, funky R&B. (I like this, I like this, I like...) I was young And didn't have nowhere to run I needed to wake up and see (and see) What's in front of me (na-na-na) There has to be a better way Sing it again a better way To show... 00:00:50 Morgan Host Boyz II Men going off, not too hard, not too soft— [Oliver says “ooo” appreciatively.] —could easily be considered a bit of a mantra for Shawn, Wanya, Nathan, and Michael, two tenors, a baritone, and a bass singer from Philly, after their debut album. The one that introduced us to their steez, and their melodies. This one went hella platinum. The follow-up, II. This album had hits that can be divided into three sections. Section one, couple’s therapy.
