Professional Summary [Detailed CV follows on Page 3-22] Dr. Jahangir Achakzai is Professor (Tenured) of Economics at the University of Balochistan (UOB). He has worked as Acting Dean/ Associate Dean Faculty of Management Sciences, IT & Business and Chairperson Economics Department at University of Balochistan. He has been providing advisory services to University as member of Board for Advanced Studies & Research, Finance & Planning Committee, Scholarship Committee, Appellant Committee of UFM, Departmental Board of Studies, Departmental Admission Committee for MPhil/PhD, Economics Committee of HEC from Balochistan, Curriculum Revision Committee of HEC from Balochistan and member of Scrutiny committee for Thematic Research Grant of HEC. Being registered in PhD program of University of Balochistan, Dr. Jahangir received World Trade Organization PhD-support Award (Scholarship) to work on his thesis under the supervision of his mentor at WTO Secretariat Geneva, Switzerland in 2006. He has been serving the University as faculty member for the last 28 years (1990-2018). He serves on several high-level committees/ commissions and taskforces of the government. He is also a referee for numerous academic journals. His research interests lies in the areas of international trade, regional trade, development economics; gender studies, poverty analysis, and agricultural economics. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 articles, book chapters and professional research reports. He is the author of 7 Books/Development Profiles (Gazetteer) printed by Quetta printing press of District Loralai; Chaghi; Kech; Kharan; Barkhan; Khuzdar, and Kech (updated version) under the Dutch Govt. Project “Improving the System of Development Planning in Balochistan (IMPLAN) in collaboration with Planning & Development Department Government of Balochistan Quetta. Dr Jahangir has played a pioneering role in initiating MPhil/ PhD program at the department of economics UOB. With his contacts and deep interest in the subject he succeeded in getting the services of senior economist on State Bank Chair for this department in 2007. Together with these academics, Dr Jahangir played a pivotal role to start for the first time various specialties of economics in the department. Being HEC recognized Supervisor in economics, he has supervised/ evaluated 5 PhDs, 17 M.Phils and 124 Masters Theses. While a number of students are currently perusing their research studies under his supervision. There has been a golden period of the research career of Jahangir as he met and interacted with renowned economist of the world during his PhD studies at World Trade Organization (WTO) Secretariat at Geneva Switzerland and learnt a great deal from these interactions. Dr Jahangir got another chance to work with scholars in his own area of research at the world most prestigious Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) at Bangkok in the year 2009 as part of his Post Doctoral Fellowship. He has a blend of work experience as “Socio-economic Consultant” with International organizations like; UNDP, UNICEF, USAID, WORLD BANK, Asian Development Bank, European Union, Dutch government, and CRS international, national organizations including; 1 Pakistan Agriculture Research Corporation (PARC), Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resource (PCRWR), Ministry of women development, Ministry of Social welfare, Planning & Development Department and Supreme Court of Pakistan. As “Socio-economic consultant” he received research grants for more than 20 projects. Some of the research projects mentioned here include; (1) “Enhancing Marketing and business skills for urban Quetta refugees and host community” for an amount of 0.6 Million funded by CRS Pakistan & Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (BPRM), USA, (2) “Minority communities‟ empowerment to protect their rights and promote understanding for peace, tolerance and equity for conflict prevention” for an amount of 0.45 Million funded by European Community (EC). (3) “Extension interventions through Public and private sector in agriculture of Balochistan” for an amount of 0.85 Million funded by Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) Islamabad. (4) “Economic Profile of poor women in Slumps of Quetta” for an amount of 0.55 Million funded by Ministry of Women Development Islamabad. (5) “Need Assessment Project of women prisoners in jails of Balochstan” for an amount of 0.55 Million funded by Ministry of Women Development Islamabad. (6) “Lost/ kidnapped/ runaway children in Balochistan”, for an amount of 0.44 Million funded by UNICEF Balochistan.(6) “Access of Rural Women to Health Facilities in Balochistan” 0.35 Million funded by Women‟s Studies center University of Balochistan. (7) “Comparative Study of Tube well and Karez System in Balochistan amounting 0.60 Million funded by Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) & USAID. (8) “Problems of Informal Sector in Balochistan” amounting 0.40 million funded by Planning & Development Department Government of Balochistan Quetta. (9) “Channels and Margins of apple production in Balochistan” amounting 0.32 Million funded by PARC and conducted by Economics Department UOB. (10) Consultant on “Gaps in Community Savings” under BRSP step–up model and the possibility of full exploitation of savings potential of village organizations under Balochistan Rural Support Program (BRSP) set up. As “Co-Consultant” he served on a World Bank funded Study amounting 0.80 Million, „Impact Assessment of Community Support and After Care Activities of Balochistan Community Irrigation and Agricultural Project (BCIAP). He has also severed as Economist being Member of Supreme Court Inspection Commission for the inspection of Public Sector Development Project (PSDP) Schemes of Govt. of Balochistan in 2013.
