Kennet: Making Places for the Future

Kennet District Council has a duty to plan for the future. The Forward Planning & Transportation team within the Council are about to begin a consultation with local communities throughout the District to discuss the main planning challenges that residents are likely to face in the next 20 years. How can we make homes more affordable? How can local jobs be encouraged?

We are trying to make as many people aware of these consultations as possible by using a combination of media. Attached to this letter is a short statement about the consultation, and for your information, a copy of the pack of material we will be using in the consultation on Kennet’s future. It would be extremely useful if you could include reference to the consultation in your parish magazine for March/April. We realise that space is limited within parish magazines but any reference you feel able to include would be appreciated.

Asking parish magazines to include information about planning matters is a new approach to contacting local communities. If you do include reference to the spring consultations in your magazine could you send us a copy to the above address. Alternatively, if you feel asking for the help of parish magazines in this way is not appropriate could you also let us know so we do not contact you unnecessarily again.

Thank you for your help and support.

Kennet: Making Places for the Future

How should Kennet develop over the next twenty tears? During March and April Kennet’s residents will have the opportunity to voice their views and influence the nature of changes and improvements in the district over the period to 2026.

The blueprint for Kennet’s future will be set out in a new planning document called the CORE STRATEGY. To begin to consider what the CORE STRATEGY should contain the Council has prepared ISSUES PAPERS for discussion on housing, environment, economy and community. Each paper raises questions for debate.

It is important that the right issues are covered now to ensure that the future development of the district reflects the main aspirations and concerns of all the Kennet communities

The ISSUES PAPERS are available to view on Kennet’s web site (www.kennet.gov.co.uk), at local libraries or the Council’s offices. Paper copies can be obtained by contacting the Forward Planning team on 01380 734872. Comments should be returned by Monday 16th April 2007 and can be sent in a variety of formats (on-line questionnaire, e-mail, or in writing). You could also attend a public meeting to discuss the issues raised at Devizes Town Hall, Marlborough Town Hall, Tidworth Community Centre or Pewsey Vale School. For further details visit the Kennet web site.
