It is with great respect that I stand here before you to bring honour and commemorate the 20th anniversary of the assassination of political activist and stalwart of the liberation struggle, Thembisile ‘Chris’ Hani - also the former General Secretary of the South African Communist Party and NEC member of the African National Congress (ANC). On this day I would like to dedicate my speech to a fallen hero who was described as a ‘selfless revolutionist’ who died for his political beliefs. Serious tensions followed after his assassination, with fears that the country would erupt into violence. Former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela addressed the nation appealing for a calm mood, I quote: “Tonight I am reaching out to every single South African, black and white, from the very depths of my being. -

Section B:Section Profile B:Northern District HealthCape Province Profiles 14 Northern Cape Province John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality (DC45) Overview of the district The John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipalitya (previously Kgalagadi) is a Category C municipality located in the north of the Northern Cape Province, bordering Botswana in the west. It comprises the three local municipalities of Gamagara, Ga- Segonyana and Joe Morolong, and 186 towns and settlements, of which the majority (80%) are villages. The boundaries of this district were demarcated in 2006 to include the once north-western part of Joe Morolong and Olifantshoek, along with its surrounds, into the Gamagara Local Municipality. It has an established rail network from Sishen South and between Black Rock and Dibeng. It is characterised by a mixture of land uses, of which agriculture and mining are dominant. The district holds potential as a viable tourist destination and has numerous growth opportunities in the industrial sector. At Dithakong, Located Northeast of Kuruman, NC Province
Phase 1 Heritage Impact Assessment of a new borrow pit (BP 12) at Dithakong, located northeast of Kuruman, NC Province. Report prepared by Paleo Field Services PO Box 38806 Langenhovenpark 9330 10 September 2019 Summary At the request of Greenbox Environmental Consultants, a Phase 1 Heritage Impact Assessment was carried out for the proposed development of a new 5 ha borrow pit, designated Borrow Pit 12, near Dithakong in the Northern Cape Province. Located about 12 km north-northeast of Dithakong, the proposed borrow pit covers 5ha of partially degraded terrain as a result of previous borrows pit activities. The site is capped by surface limestone and well-developed red to reddish – brown, Quaternary – aged, Kalahari Group aeolian sand where no fossils or fossil exposures were observed. The proposed development will have no impact in situ Stone Age archaeological material, and there are no indications of prehistoric structures, historically significant buildings older than 60 years, aboveground evidence of graves or rock art within the confines of the footprint area. As far as the archaeological heritage is concerned, the proposed development is considered to be of low archaeological significance and is assigned a site rating of Generally Protected C. Further development may proceed with no further assessments required. 2 Introduction At the request of Greenbox Environmental Consultants, a Phase 1 Heritage Impact Assessment was carried out for the proposed development of a new 5 ha borrow pit, designated Borrow Pit 12, near Dithakong in the Northern Cape Province (Fig. 1). The study is required in terms of Section 38 of the National Heritage Resources Act 25 of 1999 as a prerequisite for any development which will change the character of a linear development exceeding 300 m in length. -
