The world around us has changed much in the last year; I’m sure none of us could have predicted any of the events of the last 12 months. Perhaps this year has been an acceleration, but change is inevitable and is the only constant in life. One of the most beautiful aspects of our Catholic Faith is the unchangeable nature inherent in the teaching given to us from Himself, in the Word Made Flesh, and the timelessness of our Catholic Traditions and customs. While the expressions of our Catholic Faith do vary across cultures and have varied across time, the essential nature of the Truth of the is unchanging and unchangeable. We have been brought together as a pastorate under the Uniting in Heart pastoral plan, not to create change, but to ad- dress the changes that are happening all around us. It’s no mystery, our young people leave the earlier and fewer, if any, return, couples get married later and have fewer children, our parishes are getting older... While indeed we have some socio-economic conditions to consider here in our pastorate, I do believe we have opportunities to reunite people with the Church and to introduce people who have never known Her. This is going to require changing our modes of oper- ations in order to address the changed world and reality we find ourselves in. As the has said time and time again, we cannot plan to “maintain and sustain” because our current statistical trend is unsustainable. Thus, under the guidance of the principles of Uniting in Heart, I will be working with our Finance Councils to develop budg- ets and plans for re-organizing our staffing to serve our entire pastorate, not just a particular parish, and searching for, in- terviewing and onboarding individuals who can help us to achieve these goals.

One main position, which you may have already seen advertised in the bulletin, is the Director of Operations. This is a full time position to work closely, with me the pastor, to direct and help oversee the day to day operations of the parishes in the pastorate. This person will assist me with the stewardship of the human, financial, and physical resources of the pas- torate, in accordance with diocesan policies and guidelines. In addition to this position, we will be advertising, very shortly, aDirector of Evangelization, whose specific focus will be to support, accompany, and equip parish leaders in their ministerial areas to focus their attention beyond parishioners and into the community at large as they strive to facilitate making disciples of , building vibrant communities of faith and inspiring men and women to be witnesses of Christ to the world. These will be changes in how current descriptions are assigned and together with the Principal of St. Augustine School these individuals will form the Pastorate Core Team, which will meet regularly with me, the pastor, and help me in my mis- sion and also enable me to focus on my priestly duties and responsibilities which pertain primarily around the Sacraments, Liturgy, Catechesis and being more present at more of our parish events with less administrative burden falling on my shoulders.

As we are discussing finances this weekend, I wanted to explain some of these changes to help you to know what you will be seeing in the next few months and to continue to ask for your generous support, especially for your prayers, and in par- ticular I want to ask you for a weekly for our pastorate. In many ways we are the faithful remnant and the burden has on us to bring this message out to those who have for- gotten it or to those who have never heard it. I have already seen the generous hearts of the people of Sts. Peter and Paul, Sacred Heart and St. Augustine, and I know we have so many amazing things to offer to our community that our potential has no bounds. Fr. Bennett
