Task 5: Complete ‘Achievements’ section of Profile

Duration: between 20 -40 minutes

Learning intention: You will be learning about how to identify your achievements and capture these in the profile

1. Log on to www.myworldofwork.co.uk/ican 2. Click on Profile tab, scroll down to ‘Achievements’ and then click ‘Add/Edit’ 3. You should describe what you have done that you are most proud of. These can include achievements completed in school, at home or in spare time, at clubs etc 4. Discuss your achievements with an adult, including how to celebrate this success. Remember an achievement does not necessarily mean that you got an award, it is a moment or moments you are most proud of. 5. R/ME Personal Project.

 Prepare and present a Personal Project on a World Religion of your choice.

 Each week there will be a new task to add to your presentation.

 Begin by selecting and researching your topic, then present the information in your own way to produce the highest possible standard of project work.

Points to remember:  You may handwrite, word process, make a Power Point or use a combination of these.  Use your own words, do not copy and paste someone else’s writing.  Include a variety of presentation techniques.  Make it interesting and attractive for readers to enjoy.  Make sure the front page/slide clearly states your title and your name.  Include an introduction, glossary and bibliography.

Helpful hints for a Personal Project  Spend time researching the topic thoroughly.  Be selective about what you include.  Reference all your sources in the bibliography.  Vary your presentation by including things like:  tables  graphs  maps  lists  photographs/illustrations  diagrams  newspaper cuttings  artefacts  quizzes  diary entries  related adverts  games  any fun, interesting or clever way of presenting what you have found.

Cryptarithms

In each of the puzzles on the sheet below, each letter stands for a different digit, the puzzles are all separate from each other, so the letters may represent different numbers in each puzzle. Bearing in mind that none of the numbers below have 0 as a leading digit, can you find a solution to all of the cryptarithms? Do any of them have more than one solution?

Top tips: Start with the first one. Experiment with different numbers. Which single digit numbers, added together 3 times, give a two digit number? Experiment with the numbers you have until you find one which follows the BA pattern (or is repeated in the units). Continue to think in this way and experiment, checking your answer, then try it out on the next one, make mistakes, then try something else. This is called trial and error. REMEMBER, MISTAKES ARE GOOD.

Try to think about the biggest or smallest numbers you could add together in each case.

Extra help with getting started:

A+A+A=BA. A+A+A must equal a number above 10 because it equals a two digit number (BA). Then you must work out which three numbers under 10 are added together to equal a number under 30 with the same second digit. A also has to be 4 or above because 3×3=9 which is not a two digit number.

Then try trial and error with this information
