RAIDER REVIEW: The Raiders snapped a 4-game home slide with a 5-2 victory over the on Tuesday night at the Art Hauser Centre. After the Broncos opened the scoring, 20-year-old winger Collin Valcourt converted a powerplay marker to tie the game. Swift Current started the second period by regaining the lead, before 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl answered for the home side. In the final frame, 19-year-old centre Shane Danyluk tipped home a point to give the home team the lead, followed by a pair of goals by Draisaitl, including an empty netter, to lock in the win. 20-year-old goaltender Cole Cheveldave stopped 34 of 36 shots to pick up the victory.

VS THE WARRIORS: The Raiders are 1-4-0-0 against their East Division rivals from Moose Jaw this season. The Raiders picked up their only victory in a 3-2 overtime decision on November 2nd in Moose Jaw. 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner leads the Green and Gold with 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points and in the season series. 19-year-old defenceman Sawyer Lange has a team high 5 assists and plus-5 against the Warriors.

FIRST HAT TRICK: 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl recorded his first career hat trick on Tuesday night with his 3-, 1-assist effort. The import has recorded an “assist hat trick” three times in his WHL career.

BLUELINE BLASTING: 18-year-old defensemen Josh Morrissey has taken over the goal scoring lead by defenceman on the WHL this season, with 17 goals. Morrissey’s 17 goals this season are tied for 4th by a defenceman in one campaign in Raiders history. He is currently tied with Dean Kolstad and Nick Schultz, one goal behind Dave VanDrunen’s season best of 18 and 2 behind Mark Adelan’s total of 19. Emanuel Viveiros hold the record with 22 in 1985-1986. The Raiders is also second among WHL de- fencemen in points-per-game, averaging 1.23.

A CLOSE RACE: 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner and 19-year-old right-winger Dakota Conroy have 20 goals apiece, two be- hind 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl’s team leading 22. 18-year-old defenceman Josh Morrissey and 20-year-old winger Collin Valcourt sit three back with 17 each.

RAIDERS RANKED: 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl has been ranked 2nd among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting Service’s recent Midterm rankings for the 2014 NHL Draft, making him the highest ranked player in the WHL. 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner holds down the 40th spot on the list, the 11th highest player in the WHL.

KEEPING IT CLEAN: The Raiders are the third least penalized team in the WHL, with just 599 minutes this season. The team is also tied for the second least fighting majors in the WHL this season, with 34.

MILESTONES: 19-year-old centre Jayden Hart is 4 points away from 100 in his career. 18-year-old defenceman Josh Morrissey has surpassed his previous season high 47 points in 31 less games. 19-year-old forward Dakota Conroy is one goal from tying his previous career high of 21. 20-year-old winger Collin Valcourt is 4 games from 250 in the WHL, while 19-year-old forward Calder Brooks is 2 shy of 125.

Last Game… Jack Rodewald accounted for both Moose Jaw Warriors goals last Saturday in a 5-2 loss to the Pats in Regina. Bray- den Point and Jesse Forsberg had assists, and Justin Paulic allowed four goals on 35 shots. Moose Jaw was outshot 16-6 in the second and 36-35 overall. The Warriors were 1-for-7 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

Fioretti Suspended… Warriors Captain Sam Fioretti was issued a three game suspension from the stemming from an incident January 25th against Kootenay. This is the final game that he’ll sit out.

V Prince Albert… Tonight is the sixth meeting between the Warriors and Raiders; it’s also the third in Northern Saskatchewan. Moose Jaw is 4-01 against the Raiders, which includes a 2-0 road record. They have outscored Prince Albert 19-13 overall and 8-6 at the Art Hauser Centre.

Opposition Preview… The Prince Albert Raiders enter the weekend 9th in the WHL’s Eastern Conference with 51 points and a 24-25-2-1 record. Leon Draisaitl leads the team with 22 goals, 42 assists, and 64 points. Josh Morrissey is second in team scoring with 31 assists and 48 points. During the course of the season the Raiders acquired Collin Valcourt, Graeme Craig, and Ryan Coghlan from Saskatoon, as well as Calder Brooks from Calgary. With the Raiders, Valcourt has nine points in 15 games, Craig has three points in 11 games, Brooks has seven points in 16 games, and Coghlan has two points in 12 games.

January Recap… The Moose Jaw Warriors finished January with a 1-8-0-2 record. They were 0-2 at home and 1-6-0-2 on the road. They were outscored 16-8 in the first, 17-5 in the second, and 15-12 in the third. They were 7-for-56 on the power play (12.5%) and is 41-for-52 on the penalty kill (78.8%).

Rough Road Trip… The Moose Jaw Warriors returned to Saskatchewan after completing a season high six game in ten days road trip. The tribe posted an 0-4-0-2 record; January 17th they lost 8-2 in Portland, January 18th they picked up a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to Everett, January 21st they lost 3-2 in a shootout to Seattle, January 22nd they dropped a 4-1 decision to Tri City, January 24th Spokane downed the Warriors 3-1, the trip ended January 25th with a 6-2 loss in Kootenay. Moose Jaw’s power play was a combined 4-for-31; the penalty kill was 18-for-25. They scored first in three of the six games, and outshot the opposition only once.

Warriors On CSS Rankings… Four Moose Jaw Warriors found themselves on the 2014 Central Scouting midterm rankings. Brayden Point was 53rd among North American skaters, while Dallas Valentine was 109th, and Alexey Sleptsov was 143rd. Justin Paulic was 13th among North American skaters.
