    Bronx Bodega Partners Workgroup Don’t Stress, Eat Fresh Marketing Campaign The Don’t Stress, Eat Fresh Bronx bodegas marketing campaign, created by the Bronx Bodega Partners Workgroup (BBW), was officially launched November 15, 2017 to encourage Bronx residents to purchase healthier foods and beverages at bodegas in the Bronx. With Bronx bodegas selling healthier options -- fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy sandwiches, low-fat dairy products, water and low sodium products -- thousands of Bronx residents now have greater access to healthy foods in their neighborhood bodegas, an important means of improving their health. Begun in 2016, the workgroup includes: the Institute for Family Health's Bronx Health REACH Coalition, Montefiore's Office of Community & Population Health, BronxWorks, Bronx Community Health Network, the Bodega Association of the United States, the Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network, Inc., the American Dairy Association North East, WellCare Health Plans Inc, Urban Health Plan, City Harvest, the NYC Department of Health – Bronx Neighborhood Health Action Center, and BronxCare Health System. The Bronx Bodega Partners Workgroup together works with 53 stores. The marketing campaign was created by MESH Design and Development, a small design firm selected by the workgroup. The campaign design was informed by community focus groups that included youth from the Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center and from the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation both youths and adults. Participants provided ideas for content, color, and images. The campaign ran from October 2018 through January 2019 with signage in English and Spanish. The bodegas received posters, shelf signs and door clings. Posters were also distributed to neighboring businesses located near the bodegas.

AVERAGE SCORES 11 In consultation with our partners from environmental, environmental justice, public LEADERSHIP 12 health, and transportation groups, we identify priority bills that have passed and those we believe have a chance of becoming law for METHODOLOGY 13 inclusion in our scorecard. Gallitelli Council Member Diana Ayala Council Member Rafael Salamanca Council Member Vanessa Gibson We charge the NYPD and our local elected leaders with having profoundly failed the people of Mott Haven. The NYPD have failed us by engaging in horrific acts of brutality and lawless behavior. Our elected leaders have failed us by permitting such actions and not pursuing any accountability. As residents of Mott Haven and the South Bronx, we demand transparency, accountability, and justice. We demand that the NYPD release details about the planning of their response to June 4th. We demand that the Mayor and the City Council Members who represent the South Bronx initiate a new investigation into the NYPD’s actions to uncover the individuals who were involved in the planning and execution of June 4th. And we demand that anyone who was directly involved in the planning and the execution of the June 4th attack on peaceful protesters in Mott Haven be forced to resign or be fired. On June 4th 2020, several Bronx grassroots organizations organized a protest in the South Bronx in response to George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis and in response to ongoing abusive practices of the NYPD. Residents of the South Bronx, including Mott Haven Families, witnessed the disproportionate response of the NYPD which included calling in officers from other precincts so that hundreds of police wearing heavy armor were sent to stop the peaceful protest.

    TO: New York State Assembly New York State Senate As your colleagues in the City Council representing all five boroughs, we ask for your support of A7431 and S5294 to legalize e-bikes and e-scooters. This legislation directly combats our City’s faltering public transportation system, while defending the rights of immigrant workers. There are over 50,000 delivery workers throughout New York City, many of whom are immigrants working long hours to provide for their families. While consumers and businesses benefit from the growth of this industry, delivery workers are unjustly targeted with burdensome fines and confiscations that could cost them their jobs. We support legalizing e-bikes because we believe New York City must live up to its duty as a sanctuary city for immigrants, and a fair city for its workers. Electric scooters are an essential tool to reducing congestion and improving our air quality. While we work hard to improve our public transit system, we also need to support alternative modes of transportation to assist those that live in transit deserts. We should be following the examples of dozens of cities and states that have already successfully introduced these devices to their streets. Together, electric bikes and scooters will deliver justice to targeted workers and transit options to underserved communities.
