Press Release Vevey, 16 January 2018
Press release Vevey, 16 January 2018 Nestlé agrees to sell U.S. confectionery business to Ferrero Nestlé today announced that it agreed to sell its U.S. confectionery business to Ferrero for USD 2.8 billion in cash. Nestlé’s 2016 U.S. confectionery sales reached about USD 900 million. The transaction is expected to close around the end of the first quarter of 2018 following the completion of customary approvals and closing conditions. Nestlé CEO Mark Schneider commented: “With Ferrero we have found an exceptional home for our U.S. confectionery business where it will thrive. At the same time, this move allows Nestlé to invest and innovate across a range of categories where we see strong future growth and hold leadership positions, such as pet care, bottled water, coffee, frozen meals and infant nutrition.” Nestlé’s U.S. confectionery business represents about three percent of U.S. Nestlé Group sales. It includes popular local chocolate brands such as Butterfinger, Crunch, BabyRuth, 100Grand, Raisinets, Chunky, OhHenry! and SnoCaps, as well as local sugar brands such as SweeTarts, LaffyTaffy, Nerds, FunDip, PixyStix, Gobstopper, BottleCaps, Spree and Runts. The transaction covers the U.S.-focused confectionery brands only and does not include Nestlé’s iconic Toll House baking products, a strategic growth brand which the company will continue to develop. Nestlé remains fully committed to growing its leading international confectionery activities around the world, particularly its global brand KitKat. With sales of CHF 26.7 billion in 2016, the U.S. is Nestlé’s largest market. Nestlé products can be found in 97 percent of U.S. -
The World Health Organization Is Taking Cash Handouts from Junk Food Giants by Vigilant Citizen October 23, 2012
The World Health Organization is Taking Cash Handouts from Junk Food Giants By Vigilant Citizen October 23, 2012 The World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nationʼs “public health” arm and has 194 member states. While its official mission is “the attainment by all people of the highest possible level of health“, it is also clear that it works according to a specific agenda, one that laid out by the world elite and the organizations that are part of it. In the article entitled ‘Contagionʼ or How Disaster Movies “Educate” the Masses, weʼve seen how the WHO was involved in the promotion of mass vaccination campaigns following (bogus) disease scares, of civilian camps, of the bar-coding of individuals and so forth. More proof of the WHOʼs “elite bias” has been recently uncovered by a study: The organization has been taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from the worldʼs biggest pushers of unhealthy foods such as Coca-Cola, Nestlé and Unilever. It is relying on these companies for advice on how to fight obesity..é which is the equivalent of asking a drug dealer for advice on how stay off drugs and NOT buy his product. Coca-Cola, Nestlé and Unilever are not simply “food companies, they are gigantic conglomerates that produce and distribute an enormous proportion of processed foods across the world. In the article entitled Irrational Consumerism (or The Few Companies Who Feed the World), I described how only a few mega-conglomerates own most of the worldʼs brands of processed foods. To refresh your memory here are some of the brands -
Sour Candy on Oral Health Popular Treats
The Effects of Sour Candy on Oral Health Popular Treats Sour candies are popular treats among young people. They are colorful, they are fun and they are flavorful. However, sour candies contain a high level of acid. Acid wears away the enamel on teeth and therefore, can be very damaging. What is enamel? What is erosion? • Enamel: Outer covering or protective “shell” of tooth. • Erosion: Irreversible loss of tooth structure due to a chemical process involving acid. Tooth erosion occurs when acids dissolve enamel on teeth. A measure of acidity in foods is called the pH level. pH Level • Water has a pH of 7.0. • Battery acid has a pH level of 1.0. (YIKES!) • Loss of tooth enamel occurs at a pH level of 4.0. • Many sour candies have a pH level well below 5.5. How do your candies stack up?
