Foreign policy issues were chosen as test cases because the presidency has more power in this area which is why it could promote an aggressive stance toward the United Nations and encourage withdrawal from UNESCO with little impunity. Chapter 1 deals with American society after 1945. It shows how the ground was set for the rise of Reagan and the New Right as America moved from a strong affinity with New Deal liberalism to a new form of conservatism, which the New Right and Reagan epitomised. Chapter 2 analyses the New Right as a coalition of three distinctive groups: anti-liberals, New Christian Right, and neoconservatives. -

As the public record shows, and an investigation will confirm, the NRSC and a series of ostensibly nonprofit, nonpartisan groups have undertaken a significant and sustained effort to funnel "soft money101 into federal elections in violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended or "the Act"), 2 U.S.C. 5s 431 et seq., and the Federal Election Commission (peFECt)Regulations, 11 C.F.R. 85 100.1 & sea. 'The term "aoft money" as ueed in this Complaint means funds,that would not be lawful for use in connection with any federal election (e.g., corporate or labor organization treasury funds, contributions in excess of the relevant contribution limit for federal elections). THE FACTS IN TBIS CABE On November 24, 1992, the state of Georgia held a unique runoff election for the office of United States Senator. Georgia law provided for a runoff if no candidate in the regularly scheduled November 3 general election received in excess of 50 percent of the vote. The 1992 runoff in Georg a was a hotly contested race between the Democratic incumbent Wyche Fowler, and his Republican opponent, Paul Coverdell. The Republicans presented this election as a %ust-win81 election. Exhibit 1. Ever since con 'servatives took over the organization in i963 as a prelude to Sen. Barry Goldwater's presidential nomination a year later, the YRNF has been solidly in conservative hands. It still is---so the stage was set for an impressive demonstration of Reagan's popularity with the Republican troops. But the Reagan rally never materialized. Part of the problem was Reagan himself. The only two mysteries of 1976 presidential poli tics so .far have been whether Reagan will really end up running and whether Nelson Rockefeller will end up as Gerald Ford's nmning mate. Without these two question on which to speculate, political columnists would have had a dull year. But in Indianapolis, Reagan declined to capitalize on his backing from the top YR leadership---or the "Team" as they are now known. The Reagan problem was summed up in the New York Times by new YR Vice Chairman Morton Blackwell of Virginia: "This is not a pro-Ford convention. ~ut the opportunity for a Reagan candidacy to benefit from this convention was lost-deliberately, I think-by the Reagan forces. Transparency will be a culture-changing force. It will revolutionize government. It will infl uence how people vote. Knowing there is nowhere to hide will motivate politicians to earn votes with fi scal prudence rather than wasting taxpayer dollars by buying votes. We are living in the Information Age and the Big Data world. There is no reason why every government expenditure should not be public, accessible to the voting public via cell phone, computer, and iPad. -

Dear Fellow Delegate, On Tuesday of this week, as Republican National Convention delegates, you and I will be voting on rules changes that could fundamentally change our Republican Party -- and not for the better. Over the years, I’ve served on the Louisiana and Virginia GOP Rules Committees. I currently serve on both the Republican National Committee’s Standing Committee on Rules and on the National Convention's Committee on Rules and Order of Business. I was Barry Goldwater’s youngest elected delegate in 1964, I was honored to serve on President Ronald Reagan's White House Staff from 1981-1984, and I have attended every Republican National Convention Rules Committee meeting since 1972. My wife and I have contributed major donations to the Romney-Ryan campaign. These rule changes are the most awful I’ve ever seen come before any National Convention. I’m writing you today to urge you to join the growing effort to stop the worst-ever changes in this Rules Committee’s Report and to vote in favor of amendments to Rules 12 and 15. The Minority Reports will restore important rights and protections which state parties and grassroots Republicans would lose under the Rules Committee Report as written. These amendments to Rules 12 and 15 are contained in Minority Reports supported by at least 25% of the members of this convention's Committee on Rules and Order of Business. It's rare for Minority Reports to come before our national convention, but the issues involved here are vital to the future of our party. -

20+ LEADING CONSERVATIVE AND FREE MARKET GROUPS SUPPORT THE KEEP YOUR HEALTH PLAN ACT November 14, 2013 The Honorable Fred Upton Chairman House Energy and Commerce Committee 2125 Rayburn House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 Dear Chairman Upton: On behalf of millions of members and supporters of our organizations, we write in strong support of H.R. 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act. President Obama famously promised: “If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you'll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.” That promise is now broken for millions of Americans whose plans have been canceled as a result of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The law’s sweeping regulatory changes and the highly restrictive grandfather rule promulgated by the Department of Health and Human Services have resulted in millions of cancellations. President Obama recently apologized, saying: “I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me.” The enormous damage wrought by PPACA cannot, however, be reversed by an apology. It cannot even be undone by an act of Congress. But Congress can and must mitigate the damage by clearing away all federal statutory and regulatory barriers to extending current plans, so as many people as possible – at this late date – can in fact keep plans they like or at least have more options to replace what they've lost. The Keep Your Health Plan Act would accomplish that by allowing all 2013 plans to be offered through 2014 and exempting them from PPACA’s costly regulatory requirements. -
