Smriti Irani launches sustainable fashion project,’SU.RE’ in Mumbai The Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani has inaugurated Project SU.RE(Sustainable Resolution), a joint project of CMAI(Clothing Manufacturers Association of India)& IMG Reliance(International Management Group, during Lakme Fashion Winter/Festive 2019 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The project was launched by Smriti Irani as well as the organizers of Lakme Fashion Week (CMAI, United Nations in India, and IMG Reliance).The aim of this initiative is to move towards sustainable fashion that contributes to a clean environment. It is the 1st ever project in India’s apparel industry that 16 biggest fashion brands of India (such as Future Group, Aditya Birla Retail, Shoppers Stop, Arvind Brands) come together to set a sustainable pathway for the Indian Fashion Industry and is also a major step towards responsible and smart business.It would help the Indian fashion industry to reduce carbon emissions, increase the efficiency of resources, combat waste and water management, and create positive social impact to achieve long-term sustainability targets. (USA) Online ISSN: 2249-4626 & Print ISSN: 0975-5896 Comments on the 2011 Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences - - An Analysis of Collectively Formed Errors in Physics By C. Y. Lo Applied and Pure Research Institute, Nashua, NH Abstract - The 2011 Shaw Prize in mathematical sciences is shared by Richard S. Hamilton and D. Christodoulou. However, the work of Christodoulou on general relativity is based on obscure errors that implicitly assumed essentially what is to be proved, and thus gives misleading results. The problem of Einstein’s equation was discovered by Gullstrand of the 1921 Nobel Committee. In 1955, Gullstrand is proven correct. The fundamental errors of Christodoulou were due to his failure to distinguish the difference between mathematics and physics. His subsequent errors in mathematics and physics were accepted since judgments were based not on scientific evidence as Galileo advocates, but on earlier incorrect speculations. Nevertheless, the Committee for the Nobel Prize in Physics was also misled as shown in their 1993 press release. Here, his errors are identified as related to accumulated mistakes in the field, and are illustrated with examples understandable at the undergraduate level. Another main problem is that many theorists failed to understand the principle of causality adequately. It is unprecedented to award a prize for mathematical errors. Founder's Biographical Note The Shaw Prize was established under the auspices of Mr Run Run Shaw. Mr Shaw, born in China in 1907, was a native of Ningbo County, Zhejiang Province. He joined his brother’s film company in China in the 1920s. During the 1950s he founded the film company Shaw Brothers (HK) Limited in Hong Kong. He was one of the founding members of Television Broadcasts Limited launched in Hong Kong in 1967. He studied economics at the Vanderbilt University, USA, and received his Ph.D. in Economics in 1970. He taught economics in the Middle Tennessee University from 1969 to 1972. Seoul Peace Prize to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Why should we feel embarrassed while they know no shame? In October last year, the Seoul Peace Prize Cultural Foundation chose Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, as the 14th Seoul Peace Prize recipient. The ceremony is to be held on February 22 and Modi is expected to visit Korea to attend the ceremony. We, South Korean civil society organizations, denounce awarding a ‘Peace Prize‘ in the name of Seoul to Modi who is accountable for the murders of thousands of Muslims, and strongly assert that the Seoul Peace Prize cannot be praised as a prize established for the ‘global peace‘. Seoul Peace Prize is awarded by the Seoul Peace Prize Foundation which is a private organization created after the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Since the selection of the controversial incumbent politician Mori as the awardee of this year, questions were raised about the identity of the prize which has the word "Seoul" in its name. Later it was also revealed that any human rights and peace experts were not participating in Seoul Peace Prize selection committee. Modi's winning of the prize was a problem not only in Korea but also in India. Although Seoul Peace Prize was presented by a private foundation, the Modi government has promoted loudly the decision of the Seoul Peace Prize. Indian civil society raised questions about the reason why the foundation decided to give the prize to Modi. The fact that Modi does not deserve the Peace Prize has been getting clearer. -

2017 SEOUL PEACE PRIZE Message Kwon E-hyock Chairman of Seoul Peace Prize Selection Committee The Seoul Peace Prize, established in 1990 to contribute to world peace through the pursuit of global harmony and prosperity, will be awarded to its 14th laureate in the autumn of 2018. The prize is particularly significant in that it was inaugurated in the Republic of Korea, whose people live with the sadness of the continued division on the Korean Peninsula. Against this background, the Seoul Peace Prize encourages individuals or institutions in various fields to enhance world peace and harmony of mankind. THE LOGIC OF CHEMICAL SYNTHESIS: MULTISTEP SYNTHESIS OF COMPLEX CARBOGENIC MOLECULES Nobel Lecture, December 8, 1990 by E LIAS J AMES C OREY Department of Chemistry, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Carbogens, members of the family of carbon-containing compounds, can exist in an infinite variety of compositions, forms and sizes. The naturally occurring carbogens, or organic substances as they are known more tradi- tionally, constitute the matter of all life on earth, and their science at the molecular level defines a fundamental language of that life. The chemical synthesis of these naturally occurring carbogens and many millions of unnatural carbogenic substances has been one of the major enterprises of science in this century. That fact is affirmed by the award of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 1990 for the “development of the theory and methodology of organic synthesis”. Chemical synthesis is uniquely positioned at the heart of chemistry, the central science, and its impact on our lives and society is all pervasive. For instance, many of today’s medicines are synthetic and many of tomorrow’s will be conceived and produced by synthetic chemists. To the field of synthetic chemistry belongs an array of responsibilities which are crucial for the future of mankind, not only with regard to the health, material and economic needs of our society, but also for the attainment of an understanding of matter, chemical change and life at the highest level of which the human mind is capable. The post World War II period encompassed remarkable achievement in chemical synthesis. In the first two decades of this period chemical syntheses were developed which could not have been anticipated in the earlier part of this century.
