July 25, 2009 Verden/Germany - According to Malte Kanz of the Verden/Germany Office, qualification for the World Championship is made through the national FEI offices, NOT through the WBFSH or other national breed associations. US horse owners/riders should contact their United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) office to obtain specific qualification requirements well in advance before the actual championship dates. ~ by foreign correspondent Verena Kruepe Warmblood News has learned that the Members of the German Holsteiner Verband have voted to accept US Breeders of Holsteiner Horses into the German Verband if they breed only with pure Holsteiner lines in the US. What does this mean for American Holsteiner Horse breeders? For those breeders who breed with pure Holsteiner lines (imported and approved by the German Verband) they will now receive German Papers and have an approved German Inspection Team inspect and brand with the German Holsteiner brand in the US. Only these horses will have equal standing with the German Verband and the male offspring are eligible for stallion approval for both the US and Germany, if they qualify. Should these young American born stallions qualify they must travel to Germany and fulfill all requirements outlined for the stallions born within the German Holsteiner Verband. Warmblood News finds this a very encouraging step in the right direction and for the first time clarifies the possibilities for those breeders who breed exclusively with imported Holsteiner horses. Warmblood News further learned that a similar arrangement is in the works for the breeders of purely German Hanoverian horses. Our office has recently been inundated with phone calls from owners wondering whether their newly purchased horse or pony is registered with the American Warmblood Registry or NorthAmerican Sportpony registry. Often these owners have been told by the sellers that the horse or pony is registered with the AWR/NASPR when in fact they are not. Before you buy, be sure to call our office for confirmation that the horse or pony under consideration is indeed registered. Some buyers have been unpleasantly surprised to learn that their new horse/pony is NOT actually registered with us. Another issue that has been cropping up repeatedly is the question of whether or not the newly purchased horse or pony’s offspring are eligible for registration. Before you breed, be sure to verify that the stallion you are planning to breed to carries a current breeding permit. Once again, call the office or check our stallion roster at www.americanwarmblood.com or www.northamericansportponies.com for confirmation of a stallion’s status. Remember when using frozen semen, the stallion must have a current breeding permit for the year the semen is used in order for his offspring to be eligible for registration. The American Warmblood Registry & the NorthAmerican Sportpony Registry have gone Green! In an effort to be more environmentally responsible, the AWR and NASPR are working toward operating more “paperless.” While eliminating paperwork completely might not be possible, we have already reduced its necessity by requesting that breeding reports be submitted electronically and that most correspondence be done via E-mail and phone. We now are eliminating the need to mail out a paper newsletter by posting it on this website. Not only will this reduce the amount of paper the registries consume, but the newsletter will now reach a far wider audience. Previously the newsletter was mailed only to current members, but is now available to anyone with an internet connection. This multiplies its distribution by millions which is fantastic news for our advertisers. (See our current advertising rates at the bottom of this page). In addition, we’ll be able to post ads and articles featuring our members’ news and accomplishments immediately rather than waiting for the next paper newsletter publication date.
