NATIONALISM IN THE FRENCH REVOLUTION OF 1789 by Kiley Bickford A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirement for a Degree with Honors (History) The Honors College University of Maine May 2014 Advisory Committee: Richard Blanke, Professor of History Alexander Grab, Adelaide & Alan Bird Professor of History Angela Haas, Visiting Assistant Professor of History Raymond Pelletier, Associate Professor of French, Emeritus Chris Mares, Director of the Intensive English Institute, Honors College Copyright 2014 by Kiley Bickford All rights reserved. Abstract The French Revolution of 1789 was instrumental in the emergence and growth of modern nationalism, the idea that a state should represent, and serve the interests of, a people, or "nation," that shares a common culture and history and feels as one. But national ideas, often with their source in the otherwise cosmopolitan world of the Enlightenment, were also an important cause of the Revolution itself. The rhetoric and documents of the Revolution demonstrate the importance of national ideas. -

The rectangles represent tanks and fortresses, and the lines are for tank movement, combat, and containment: "They're symbols. Download Story of Easter 0.Pdf
Easter is the most important holiday of the year for Christians. To appreciate this holiday it is necessary to really grasp the drama and significance of Jesus’death and resurrection. This story is one of the most dramatic in the whole Bible. However, the Bible is an old book and not written like a modern novel. Therefore it is easy to miss the drama and significance of this story when reading it for the first time. I have written this short version of the story to help you understand this story and the significance of this holiday for us who follow Jesus. -Len Andyshak The Easter Story Matthew 26-28, Mark 14-15, Luke 22-24, John 18-21 It is noon and something has changed. The morning has been sunny and the sky blue. But now it is noon and the sky is dark. Heavy clouds hang low in the sky blocking the sun. It is noon, but it seems as if night is coming. Everything is quiet. Birds are still and people speak in whispers. Something is very wrong. Blood is slowly oozing from the nail which has been driven through Jesus’hand. He is weak and struggling to breathe as he hangs on a wooden cross by three nails which have been driven through his hands and feet. In the dim light he can hear his own heart beating, but he knows that he will die on this cross - under these dark and eerie clouds. For three years Jesus had been one of the most well known people in Israel. -

BWTB Revolver @ 50 2016
1 PLAYLIST AUG. 7th 2016 Part 1 of our Revolver @ 50 Special~ We will dedicate to early versions of songs…plus the single that preceded the release of REVOLVER…Lets start with the first song recorded for the album it was called Mark 1 in April of 1966…good morning hipsters 2 9AM The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows – Revolver TK1 (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John The first song recorded for what would become the “Revolver” album. John’s composition was unlike anything The Beatles or anyone else had ever recorded. Lennon’s vocal is buried under a wall of sound -- an assemblage of repeating tape loops and sound effects – placed on top of a dense one chord song with basic melody driven by Ringo's thunderous drum pattern. The lyrics were largely taken from “The Psychedelic Experience,” a 1964 book written by Harvard psychologists Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert, which contained an adaptation of the ancient “Tibetan Book of the Dead.” Each Beatle worked at home on creating strange sounds to add to the mix. Then they were added at different speeds sometime backwards. Paul got “arranging” credit. He had discovered that by removing the erase head on his Grundig reel-to-reel tape machine, he could saturate a recording with sound. A bit of….The Beatles - For No One - Revolver (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul 3 The Beatles - Here, There And Everywhere / TK’s 7 & 13 - Revolver (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul Written by Paul while sitting by the pool of John’s estate, this classic ballad was inspired by The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows.” Completed in 14 takes spread over three sessions on June 14, 16 and 17, 1966. -
Letters from Long ‘Un
Letters from Long ‘un Captain Robert James Henderson, MC and Bar 13th Battalion AIF 1915-1918 Bob Henderson in France, winter 1917 Compiled by David Garred Jones 1 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This compilation arose out of a wider study into the movements, actions and stories of the “Originals” of the 13th Australian Infantry Battalion in World War 1. Part of that work involved reviewing the hundreds of diaries and thousands of letters that had been donated to the various State libraries and the Australian War Memorial. Much of this first-hand material is now available on-line, and in some cases has been transcribed by the skilled and dedicated staff of those institutions. Amongst that wealth of material are the letters of Captain Robert James Henderson, MC and Bar, of the 13th Battalion. They encapsulate the thoughts and feelings of a man who started in 1915 as a private, saw action in Gallipoli, Fleurbaix, Pozieres, Mouquet Farm, Messines, Passchendaele and Villers-Bretonneux, rising through the ranks to Captain. Henderson’s family donated his letters, postcards, certificates, awards and other ephemera to the Australian War Memorial (“AWM”). They have been digitised and posted on line under the accession code AWM2016.30.1 through to AWM2016.30.9. I am deeply grateful to the AWM for making this valuable historical archive so readily accessible. As well as Henderson’s own photographs, I have included some relevant images from the AWM and other sources, all of which are acknowledged in the captions to the photos. I have also added, in italics, the locations from where each letter was written (if not already included in the original letter). -

The Hollyridge Strings
The Hollyridge Strings The Hollyridge Strings were an in-house act released by Capitol Records. Throughout the 1960's, they were perhaps best known for their instrumental versions of Beatles songs. In fact, so popular was their first album that an album exists by "The Mustangs" whose cover is a take- off of the cover to the first instrumental Beatles album by the Strings. Stu Phillips arranged and conducted the first three volumes, plus the album with solo songs on it. Perry Botkin, Jr. and Mort Garson did the honors on volume four, but Garson alone did the job on volume five. Botkin had previously conducted the Strings some years before. For the interested fanatic, here are the Hollyridge Strings' Beatles albums in all their glory: The Beatles Song Book Capitol (S)T-2116 Side One Side Two 1. From Me to You 1. Can't Buy Me Love 2. I Saw Her Standing There 2. All My Loving 3. Please Please Me 3. A Taste of Honey 4. P.S. I Love You 4. Do You Want to Know a Secret? 5. Love Me Do 5. She Loves You 6. I Want to Hold Your Hand Two songs from this LP are featured on the promotional album, Balanced for Broadcast, from June, 1964 (Capitol PRO-2634/5). The album was also reviewed in the June 6, 1964, issue of Billboard. This record surprised all critics by climbing to the #15 position in the Billboard album listings (August 22, 1964). As it continued to sell, the success of this album, the Strings' first, prompted Capitol to create a series of songbooks -- a series for which the band became known. -
