IBM United States IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation. 104-142 Description BladeCenter HS40 description High-performance blade-server subsystems: The BladeCenter HS40 blades are high-throughput, four-way, SMP-capable Xeon-based network blade servers that are highly scalable by adding memory and additional processors. These flip-chip, pin-grid array 2 (FC-PGA2) processors feature advanced transfer L3 caches integrated onto the processor core and run at the same clock speed. The advanced transfer cache is a result of a 256 bits wide “backside bus.” It features a quad-wide cache line that can transfer four 64-bit cache line segments at one time to deliver full-speed capability. The cache is eight-way set associative. Four Intel Xeon MP connectors are standard on the blade board to support installation of up to four processors of the same speed. High-speed, PC2100 DDR SDRAM is synchronized for up to 400 MHz processor-to-memory subsystem performance with current processors. The BladeCenter HS40 uses the fourth-generation ServerWorks Grand Champion Low End (GC-LE) SystemSet chipset that includes: • Grand Champion Memory and I/O Controller (CMIC-LE5) • Champion South Bridge 6 (CSB6) Related options • Champion I/O Bridge (CIOB-X2) The CMIC-LE5 controls two main functional units: IBM Processor Upgrade with 2.0 GHz/400 MHz/1 MB L3 Cache Xeon MP Processor (13N0651): The 2.0 GHz model • High-performance main memory subsystem, supports internal processing speeds of 400 MHz FSB with maximizing throughput from processors to memory 1 MB L3 cache. • IMB, maximizing throughput from the processor bus to These next-generation Xeon MP processors use a 133 the I/O buses MHz common clock speed for external operations. Both 200 and 400 MHz source synchronous strobes are used The CSB6 delivers PCI function and integrates these I/O to support 200 MHz (double-pumped) address and functions: 400 MHz (quad-pumped) data buses to the memory • controller. This allows up to 3.2 GB/s data transfers Support for four USB ports between memory and the processor. • Power management logic • IBM BladeCenter SCSI storage expansion unit PCI bus interface for video controller • Systems management bus (SMBus), supporting The new SCSI expansion unit features: Phillips I2C two-wire protocol interface • CIOB-X2 chipset — I/O control through the IMB • Low power controller (LPC) interface for POST/BIOS connector to the blade-server memory controller EEPROM • LSI 53C1020 SCSI controller — Supports Ultra320 or • Four Intel Gigabit Ethernet connections Ultra160 HDDs and integrated RAID 1 function • One external PCI-X bus segment for two daughter card • SCSI accessed fault-tolerant enclosure (SAF-TE) connectors interface — Industry standard for monitoring the SCSI subsystem Standard BladeCenter HS40 configurations • Power interface Models Processor L2 Cache Memory Ethernet HDD • SCSI bus with two SCA-2 connectors — Support two 8839─21X 2.0 GHz/1 MB L3 Xeon 512 KB 1 GB ECC Four Gb Open 3.5-inch, slim-high, hot-swap LVDS HDDs The SCSI storage expansion unit option is supported on Additional features the BladeCenter HS20 and BladeCenter HS40.
