My current projects utilize an optogenetic approach to study the roles of D1 and D2 receptor-expressing neuronal populations in the nucleus accumbens and central amygdala in regulating incentive ‘wanting’ towards both reward stimuli and stimuli that do not necessarily elicit a positive hedonic experience. My research further seeks to understand how these ‘wanting’ systems may be involved in maladaptive states such as drug addiction.
