Kent Valley 16U Select Vipers Split with Wenatchee 18U Jr Wild in Weekend Series at Home

Kent Valley Ice Centre, Kent, WA., Saturday, January 12, 2019 – The Kent Valley 16U Select Vipers played very solid games in both games Saturday against the Wenatchee 18U Jr Wild. Unfortunately, the Select Vipers split the series with the Jr Wild for a win and a loss. Wenatchee won game one 4 to 2 and Kent Valley won game two 4 to 1. Kent Valley gave up an early goal in game one but countered with back to back goals to take a 2 - 1 lead early in the second period. A couple of small but costly errors by letting their guard down in their own zone cost the Select Vipers dearly as Wenatchee pounced on the quick opportunities to take a 4 - 2 lead that they took to the final buzzer. Coach Ferguson said, “Despite controlling 80% of the game and puck possession and outshooting Wenatchee, we simply could NOT get another goal to find its way into the net in the third period to tie things up. Wenatchee's goalie played very well and made several huge saves as we still managed to outshoot Wenatchee in the losing effort, and we hit THREE posts AND a crossbar all in the third period as we really poured on the pressure trying to get the game evened up again, but it was not to be.” Ferguson complimented his team’s play in game one saying, “The effort and overall play of our team was excellent. We definitely could have had a win in this game with just a little puck luck or a small twist of fate, so the loss was nothing to hang our heads over for sure.” The second game of the series with Wenatchee was the kind of game the Kent Valley Select Vipers are capable of playing - from beginning to end!!! Coach Ferguson said, “The game was far more physical and aggressive on the forecheck, outshooting Wenatchee again and being very stingy in our defensive zone with a lot of great back-checking. Our goalie, Ben Glidden, played a very solid game as well. We really owned control of the game from early in the first period all the way through the end, without taking our foot off the gas. The second game was really a fun game to coach and to watch, very fast and entertaining with a ton of obvious effort from every Kent player in the victory!” Below is the 2-game individual scoring summary for the Select Vipers:

Kent Valley 18U Tornadoes Defeat Shorthanded Seattle Jr 18U Jr Totems 13 to 4 in MHL League Play

Kent Valley Ice Centre, Kent, WA., Saturday, January 12, 2019 - Kent Valley’s 18U Tornadoes defeated the Seattle Jr 18U Jr Totems Saturday with a 13 to 4 win on home ice. It was the Tornadoes second win of the season over the Seattle Jr 18U Jr Totems. The Tornadoes defeated the Jr Totems 8 to 0 back on October 20th at Olympic View Ice Arena. The Jr Totems rolled into town with just five skaters and no goalie. What does one do? Forfeiting the game was out of consideration for both coaches. Besides, the ice time is paid for. So, the Tornadoes loaned the Jr Totems their idle goalie, Kyle Klem (just off a shutout in the Tornadoes’ previous game), and the game went on as planned. Congratulations to both teams for playing the game. Below is the individual scoring summary for the Tornadoes:
