Feb 6 Craig Giles backed by The Blackhats April 3 Norma O’Hara Murphy President’s Report Hi Everybody, How are you all doing with the cold weather we’re having? I am enjoying it (I love winter) and with winter comes August and with August comes our A.G.M. so don’t forget to be at the meeting and have your say. Unfortunately we will be losing two of our general committee, Bev and Josie (we wish them all the very best). We will therefore need two replacements. Please think seriously about being on our committee. You’d be surprised how little time being on the general part of the committee takes up. Many people think they don’t have the time, but it’s really only one meeting (at night) through the month and of course our club show and what we do that day. Country music is still struggling to attract young people. Don’t forget that if you have talented grandchildren or great grandchildren encourage them to come along and speak to Lorraine about performing Di at our February Show at your shows. We do have shows where we have walk-ups. Well bye for now. Thank God for country music. Di Smith (Pres) The love of money is the root of all evil.

The attendance has been higher than usual, so thanks to everyone for their support. Entertainment for June was one my favourite artists from NSW, the one and only Brian Letton. He has more than ten CDs available, which proves how good he is – ballads, gospel and Xmas, it’s all there. He sure put on a great show. The dance floor was full all day. His partner for the day was Cactus Martens from Port Pirie. Cactus had a band ‘Detour’. He still keeps in touch with all the members of the band. He was great as well. He has two CDs out. It was a very good sound of Country Music with them both. Brian’s son Trev controlled the sound. He said he still drums along the way at times. I remember him Lorna Jackson (number one Brian Letton fan) with Brian as a teenager drumming away. I reckon he is about six foot tall now, wow, how time flies by. It was nice to hear Brian’s father Harry Letton was recognised in the Barmera Hall of Fame this year. Lorraine

The bands have been well received. Still there are a few people who don’t like a certain band, but please just sit back and enjoy the music. We are never going to please everyone. Bill Bedford and his bush ballads have a real country feeling. That’s how country music started sitting around or dancing to songs about the bush and life living in our great country Australia. Nowadays songs are written about everyday problems and love songs. I believe Tamworth is changing to this latest style. We will continue to be real country! It was pleasing to hear Daryl Lee perform in the band. Little Ashlee, Bill’s granddaughter, loves being up there with granddad. She has endured a lot of illness in her Above:- Bill Bedford early years but is bright and sparky now. Keven Bergen often joins the band, but won’t be on August the first. Appearing will be David Cross (Piano). Patsy Croucher (Bass). Bobby Craig (Drums) and of course Bernie Scott. When asked for some words for this issue Patsy replied with “We always enjoy playing at the A.C.M.C., thank them for supporting our band. We are looking forward to another entertaining show.” Above:- Bernie as Jim Reeves singing ‘Put your sweet lips a little closer to the Instead of the usual photos of them, phone’ at the Cobi Club Impersonation evening and as ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little shown are some of them dressed up Star’ as one of Ollie’s Angels on the ‘Girls Day Out’ at the Football Club. at Barmera in June. Byrne Plumbing Disaster On the Wednesday before the Easter weekend Rhonda and Russell Byrne had a plumbing disaster with their kitchen taps. Waters was pouring down in between the walls and inside the kitchen cupboards. Initially we were unable to find a plumber prepared to assist before Easter but a phone call to Phil’s Tapfix resulted in Phil arriving within the hour, knocking out part of the wall and fixing the problem.

Phil King is also known to many as a country music artist, especially at S.A. Riverland Country Music Festival at Barmera.

Thanks Phil.

Joke from Rhonda Six retired Irishmen were playing poker in O’Leary’s apartment when Paddy Murphy loses $500 on a single hand, clutches his chest and drops dead at the table. Showing respect for their fallen brother, the other five continue playing standing up. Michael O’Connor looks around and asks, “Oh, me boys, someone has to tell Paddy’s wife. Who will it be?” They draw straws. Paul Gallagher picks the short one. They tell him to be discreet and gentle, don’t make a bad situation any worse. “Discreet??? I’m the most discreet Irishman you’ll ever meet. Discretion is me middle name. Leave it to me.” Gallagher goes over to Murphy’s house and knocks on the door. Mrs. Murphy answers and asks what he wants. Gallagher declares: “your husband just lost $500 and is afraid to come home.” “Tell him to drop dead!” says Murphy’s wife. “I’ll go tell him.” says Gallagher.

Help Please try and keep crumbs and rubbish off the floor. At the end of the day Committee members vacuum the floor. Less crumbs less work! Thanks! Please also put your rubbish in the bins, return bottles and glasses to the bar and cup holders to their container. Again this will save your Committee having to do these chores. Thanks to all for helping the Committee with setting up the venue at the start and clearing and cleaning up at the end of the day.
