The Iron Gate Gorge is not only the deepest, but also the largest gorge of the Old Continent. The Romans called it the Iron Gate. The current name Djerdap has its root in the ancient Persian word girdap, which means vortex, whirlpool. Treasures of the National Park The Djerdap is in many ways the prefix to the most: the most beautiful national park in Europe, the largest natural and archeological museum in nature, the oldest geological heritage ... From the viewpoints Veliki and Mali Štrbac it provides the most unreal views of the gorge of the mighty river. The architectural masterpiece of the ancient world The Roman border road, painstakingly pierced through the bottomless gorges, was flooded by a hydroelectric dam. Today, this endeavor is evidenced by the famous board of Emperor Trajan. One of the masterpieces of the famous architect Apolodar of Damascus - the stone bridge over the Danube – was, according to the historians, "the longest bridge in the world for a thousand years". The town where the wine lives The wines of the Negotin region were well-known throughout Europe and Russia, and Austro-Hungary even had its own consulate for the trade with Negotin wines. The winegrowers of this area started building their wine cellars from the 17th century - the kind of stone towns where wine was stored. The beautiful wine cellar villages are well preserved: Rajac, Rogljevo, Smedovac, Štubik and Bratujevac. Pleasantly singing The famous Negotin composer Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac devoted most of his work to Orthodox spiritual music. His Liturgy and the Liturgical Song of Cherubim are considered to be the most beautiful peaces of Serbian choral music. His “Rukoveti” are also well known - a mix of songs with folklore motifs. It is the only fully preserved medieval fortress in Bulgaria. It is situated on the big bend of the Danube River near the town. It is located at the end of the Danube riverside Park in the east direction, next to the bank of the Danube. The castle is known by the name "Babini Vidini Kuli" or "Baba Vida". The fortress is a cultural monument of national importance and is among the 100 national tourist sites of the Republic of Bulgaria. In addition to tourist visits, it is a natural cinema decor (over 50 Bulgarian and foreign films, mostly with historical themes, have been filmed in the castle and the area around it) and for theater performances as well as other cultural events. Osman Pazvantoglu’s Mosque Osman Pazvantoglu Mosque is a Muslim temple located in Vidin. In addition to the mosque, the Osman Pazvantoglu Library is included in the architectural ensemble. These are located in the town's garden (Dabube riverside Park) just opposite the Metropolitan Complex in Kaleto area (the Old Town). They have been declared a cultural monument of national importance. Cross-shaped barracks Ethnographic museum The Cross-shaped Barracks is located in the oldest part of the town of Vidin, near the Danube riverside park and the church "St. Petka. The Cross-shaped barracks' building is unique to the Balkans, built in 1801 by Polish and French specialists for the Turkish military garrison, led by Pasha Osman Pazvantoglu. After the Liberation of Bulgaria, the building was used as a military court and barracks for the Bulgarian army. Konak Historical Museum Konak is an original architectural monument of culture of local importance.

INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE DANUBE RIVER Study on Bioindicators, Inorganic and Organic Micropollutants in Selected Bioindicator Organisms in the River Danube and its tributaries November 2000 Prepared by Institute for Water Pollution Control, VITUKI Plc., In co-operation with the Secretariat of the ICPDR Preface VITUKI Plc, Budapest, Hungary, performed the Study on Bioindicators, Inorganic and Organic Micropollutants in Selected Bioindicator Organism in the River Danube and its tributaries in co- operation with the Secretariat of the ICPDR in Vienna. It was a follow-up activity to the UNEP/OCHA Balkan Task Force Mission, which investigated the environmental impacts of the Kosovo conflict in FRY in 1999. The major aim of the Study on Bioindicators was to investigate the accumulation of organic and inorganic micropollutants in sediments and biota and to analyze the macrozoobenthos in the Danube reach impacted by the Kosovo conflict. The Study was financially supported by the governments of Germany and Austria and organized by the Secretariat of the ICPDR. The sampling mission was carried out on 17-23 July 2000 by the VITUKI team with the kind support of Yugoslavian authorities. The samples were analyzed in VITUKI and VUVH, Bratislava, Slovakia. The actual report was prepared by Dr. Béla CSÁNYI (Project Manager). The findings, interpretations and conclusions of the Study contribute to mapping of the quality status of the Danube reach, which has been excluded from the regular monitoring activities of the ICPDR (Transnational Monitoring Network) until now. The list comprised field investigations, articles, grey literature, and unpublished data. Twenty-nine species of macroinvertebrates have been recorded since 1942, with a domination of the Ponto-Caspian faunistic elements. The majority of recorded species have broad distribution and are naturalized in the waters of Serbia, while occasional or single findings of seven taxa indicate that these species have failed to form populations. Presented results clearly show that the Danube is the main corridor for the introduction and spread of non-native species into Serbia. Keywords: Serbia; inland waters; allochthonous species; introduction 1. Introduction The Water Framework Directive (WFD) [1] represents key regulation and one of the most important documents in the European Union water legislation since it was adopted in 2000.

Migration and Population Origin of Negotin Municipality at the Beginning of the 20th Century Review article UDC 314.7(497.11 Negotin)„19” Received: 3. July 2019; doi: 10.5937/zrgfub1902069A Received in revised form: 10. July 2019; Accepted: 20. July 2019; Available online: 20. July 2019 MIGRATION AND POPULATION ORIGIN OF NEGOTIN MUNICIPALITY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY Zlatko Apanović 1 Abstract: The area of the municipality of Negotin, which belonged to the historically important area of Krajina, represented the polygon of intersection of migration flows of different intensity and directions. Studying the origins of the population enables us to understand the currently ethnic division of settlements created by the migrations and ethnic processes that influence the settlements which are the subject of this paper. This article aims to describe the migration flows that determined the origin of the population of the municipality of Negotin and the ethnic distribution of settlements. The results of anthropogeographic surveys conducted during the second and third decades of the 20th century, as well as ethnological research from the second half of the 20th century, can rightly be interpreted as supporting the claim that the origin of the population and the ethnic structure of settlements of the municipality of Negotin are largely the result of historical migration trends. Of the greatest importance for the ethnic distribution of population are its two migration flows. The first and the oldest migration flow from Kosovo and Metohija and stage areas for that migrant lineages (families who have a mutual ancestor) and the second and the most numerous migration flow is from Wallachia, in which the participating lineages of Serbian and Vlach origin which created conditions for further deepening of the differences between Serbian and Vlach settlements.
