The University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) was founded in March 2007.

It is the alliance of the three major Universities in the Ruhr area: • Ruhr University Bochum • TU Dortmund University • University of Duisburg-Essen

 To pool their expertise  To enhance their collective potential  To strengthen the visibility of the region

. Approximately 120,000 students . More than 16,000 graduates each year . More than 1,000 doctorates granted each year . Close to 1,300 full professors . Budget: approx. €1.5 billion, including approx. €340 billion of third‐party funding . Lead coordination of 17 collaborative research centers (financed by the German Research Foundation, DFG) .Manyfold cooperation with Brazilian Universities (USP, UNESP, UFRGS, UFMG, UFABC and others) By bundling the complementary strengths of our partner universities, we successfully open up innovative research fields. With joined forces, we thus form critical masses in terms of personnel and infrastructure
