The Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy The Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy are both mantras, which are prayers based on repetition. The mantra becomes a constant companion, reminding you of your steadfast relationship with God and helping you navigate all the distractions your mind and heart may be prone to. By using a mantra, you can tap into and even expand your inner resources of peace, patience, strength, and faithfulness. A mantra can be repeated silently as you go about your regular activities. There are an amazing number of opportunities for this prayer practice during a day, such as while standing in the elevator, in your car, on a walk, or while waiting. All you need is about 20 minutes to pray either the Rosary or the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. The Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy are prayed with the aid of rosary beads, but both can be prayed without. One difference in method between the two is that the Rosary has a focus for each decade, called “the mysteries,” which are significant events in the life of Jesus. Each decade of 10 beads is focused on one of the mysteries, a source of meditation during the mantra. Both the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy can be offered for particular intentions. Praying the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy takes only a few short minutes wherein we acknowledge God as our Merciful Savior, acknowledge God as our source of life, acknowledge our own sinfulness, intercede for the world, pray for God's saving help, and reflect on Jesus' passion and resurrection that opened up a whole avenue of Mercy for us. Make the Sign of the Cross 2. Say the Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. 3. Pray the Our Father Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. 4. Pray the Hail Mary 3 times Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. 5. Pray the Glory Be (The Doxology) Glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. 6. In both the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, a prayer is prayed 10 times, once on each small bead, which equals 1 decade: Rosary – Pray the Hail Mary 10 times (once on each small bead) Divine Mercy – Pray “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world” 10 times (once on each small bead) 7. At the end of each decade, on the large bead: Rosary – Pray the Glory Be and the Our Father Divine Mercy – Pray the Eternal Father prayer Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. 8. When at the end of the 5th decade, conclude with: Rosary – Pray the Hail Holy Queen prayer Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
