Woodhead Scottish Crop Research Institute, Dundee, DD2 5DA, UK *Corresponding author: [email protected] Abstract The Rosaceae family consists of around 3, 000 species of which 500 belong to the genus Rubus. Ploidy levels range from diploid to dodecaploid with a genomic number of 7, and members can be difficult to classify into distinct species due to hybridization and apomixes. Species are distributed widely across Asia, Europe, North and South America with the center of diversity now considered to be in China, where there are 250-700 species of Rubus depending on the taxonomists. Rubus species are an important horticultural source of income and labor being produced for the fresh and processing markets for their health benefits. Blackberries and raspberries have a relatively short history of less than a century as cultivated crops that have been enhanced through plant breeding and they are only a few generations removed from their wild progenitor species. Rubus sp. are typically found as early colonizers of disturbed sites such as pastures, along forest edges, in forest clearings and along roadsides. Blackberries are typically much more tolerant of drought, flooding and high temperatures, while red raspberries are more tolerant of cold winters. Additionally, they exhibit vigorous vegetative reproduction by either tip layering or root suckering, permitting Rubus genotypes to cover large areas. The attractiveness of the fruits to frugivores, especially birds, means that seed dispersal can be widespread with the result that Rubus genotypes can very easily be spread to new sites and are very effective, high-speed invaders. -

Intro 1996 National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands The Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared a National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1996 National Summary (1996 National List). The 1996 National List is a draft revision of the National List of Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1988 National Summary (Reed 1988) (1988 National List). The 1996 National List is provided to encourage additional public review and comments on the draft regional wetland indicator assignments. The 1996 National List reflects a significant amount of new information that has become available since 1988 on the wetland affinity of vascular plants. This new information has resulted from the extensive use of the 1988 National List in the field by individuals involved in wetland and other resource inventories, wetland identification and delineation, and wetland research. Interim Regional Interagency Review Panel (Regional Panel) changes in indicator status as well as additions and deletions to the 1988 National List were documented in Regional supplements. The National List was originally developed as an appendix to the Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin et al.1979) to aid in the consistent application of this classification system for wetlands in the field.. The 1996 National List also was developed to aid in determining the presence of hydrophytic vegetation in the Clean Water Act Section 404 wetland regulatory program and in the implementation of the swampbuster provisions of the Food Security Act. While not required by law or regulation, the Fish and Wildlife Service is making the 1996 National List available for review and comment. -

Methods and results : The identification of the compounds was performed by HPLC-DAD based on C-18 reversed phase column separation. Results from HPLC analysis showed that malvidin and petunidin-3- O-glucoside were the major anthocyanin glucoside, whereas quercetin-3- O-glucoside was the major flavonol among the four identified. Conclusion : The content of anthocyanins and flavonols in the grape skin of three grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ) varieties exhibits notable differences among the cultivars studied, confirming their importance in the varietal characterization. The highest concentrations of total anthocyanins and flavonols corresponded to the Gros noir variety. -

In Colombia, tolerant plant material has been detected, but it has not been completely characterized. The objective of this research was oriented to analyze de novo transcriptome assembly of R. glaucus, and the comparison of the assembly with different reference genomes to further complete differential expression analysis of R. glaucus tolerant to C. gloespoiorides attack. To achieve this, three groups were used: infected tolerant material, infected susceptible material, and a susceptible group without inoculation. The RNA-seq sequencing was achieved through Illumina Hi-seq 2000. De novo assembly (Trinity, CD-HIT, TopHat) and functional annotation of sequences were carried out, additionally, mapping with reference genomes belonging to Rosaceae families was conducted (Bowtie2, TopHat). Subsequently, the differential expression was quantified (Cuffdiff) and analyzed through EdgeR. Variant analysis was made using MISA and SAMtools. After editing and assembly, 43579 consensus sequences were obtained (N50 = 489 bp; GC = 44.6%), annotation detected 35824 and 35602 sequences in Nt (partially non-redundant nucleotide sequences) and Nr (non-redundant protein sequences) databases, respectively. The 85% of Nr sequences was linked to members of Rosaceae family, mainly strawberry (67.6%). -

Abstract Anthocyanins are naturally occurring compounds, member of the flavonoid groups of photochemical, involved in defense against the damaging effects of UV irradiation in plants and protect from many oxidants. The anthocyanins, group of pigments are relatively small and diverse flavonoid family in nature, and responsible for the attractive colors, red and purple to blue in many plants. Presence of pigments in flowers and fruits seems to provide attraction for pollination and aiding seed distribution, it also provides antiviral and antimicrobial activities, however their occurrence in the vacuoles remains ambiguous. -

The anthocyanins cyanidin-3-O-glucoside and cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside were isolated from samples of freeze-dried açaí (Euterpe oleraceae Mart.), which is a round and purple well-known palm fruit in Brazil, and then used as standards. The isolation of the anthocyanins was performed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), using an adapted six-channel selection valve. The identification of anthocyanin pigments in açaí was based on mass spectrometric data for molecular ions and MS-MS product ions and on previous published data. After the collection procedure, standards with a high purity grade were obtained and an external standard curve of each anthocyanin was plotted. Resumo Disponibilidade de padrões analíticos é um aspecto crítico no desenvolvimento de métodos de análises quantitativas de antocianinas. Para a obtenção dos padrões isolados de antocianinas cianidina-3-O-glicosídeo e cianidina-3-O-rutinosídeo foram utilizadas amostras liofilizadas de açaí (Euterpe oleraceae Mart.), que é um conhecido fruto de palmeiras no Brasil de forma arredondada e roxo.
