Local Boundary Commission for England Consultation Portal Page 1 of 1 Hertfordshire County Personal Details: Name: Andrew Young E-mail: Postcode: Organisation Name: North East Herts Conservative Association Comment text: The North East Herts Conservative Association supports the new Ward Boundaries as configured in the Draft Document. We do however have 2 suggestions regarding the names of the Wards outlined. 1) That Letchworth North West Ward be renamed Letchworth North Ward, as it now incorporates virtually the whole of the Town North of the Railway Line 2) Royston East becomes Royston East and Ermine Rural 3) Royston West becomes Royston West and North Herts Rural in 2) and 3) above, the current name only emphasises the town of Royston. Many of the villages and rural areas to the West and East of Royston have no connection to, or empathy with Royston Town. Indeed in the case of the southerly part of the proposed Royston West Ward, they are many miles from Royston and have absolutely nothing in common at all. The current names may well make residents feel totally disconnected from its Ward, and encourage even poorer voter turnout. Our suggested alternatives incorporate both the largest town name plus a name that is familiar to the more rural parts of the Wards. -
View the PE and Sport Matters Newsletter: November 2020
PE and Sport Matters Hertfordshire Primary Schools’ Newsletter Autumn Term 2020 #MoreThanPE Welcome to the latest PE and School Matters Newsletter, providing a roundup of some of the initiatives that have been delivered in recent months across Hertfordshire, as well as highlighting opportunities for the Autumn 2020 term. With Barnardo’s claiming that 1 in 3 primary school pupils have experienced an increase in mental health issues including stress, loneliness and worry, the wellbeing of our young people has never been so important. Research from the Youth Sport Trust suggests that 73% of teachers reported how children are returning to school with lower levels of physical fitness. I would encourage all schools to participate in the Sport England Active Lives Children and Young People Survey. Completion of the survey will provide unique evidence to your school community around sport, physical activity, mental health and wellbeing. I am fully supportive of all the work from the Herts Sports Partnership around PE and School Sport - including the virtual Herts School Games programme, The Daily Mile initiative and their work to encourage compliance with the Chief Medical Officer’s recommendation of 60 active minutes each day for our children and young people. Worryingly, according to Sport England only 19% of children met this target during the first lockdown. The county’s School Games Organisers have worked tirelessly to create the virtual School Games offer, and I am delighted to see this continue for the autumn term. It is important to ensure that these Personal Best challenges and school competitions still take place across the academic year, as these provide a safe environment for children and young people to continue being physically active and to overcome any challenges they may have faced as a result of Covid 19. -

It examines factors influencing the social composition of schools. A total of 23 LEAs completed interviews about their secondary school admissions arrangements The four case study LEAs have significantly different market scenarios. Results show that recent national education policy has not been evenly implemented across LEAs. A combination of organizational, structural, and demographic factors have muted much of the potential impact of school reforms on school admissions. Normative patterns of school use have not been substantially affected by the market reforms or the administrative actions of LEAs. LEAs remain important arenas within which school choice operates because they define kinds of choice available to parents in their administrative boundaries. -

The partnership About Challenge Partners Challenge Partners is a practitioner-led education charity that enables collaborative school improvement networks to enhance the life chances of all children, especially the most disadvantaged. Challenge Partners was formed to continue the learning which emerged from the development of Teaching Schools that evolved out of the London Challenge. Since its formation in 2011, the outcomes for pupils in Challenge Partners schools have consistently improved faster than the national average. We provide networks and programmes that facilitate sustainable collaboration and challenge between schools in order to underpin improvements in outcomes which would not be possible for a school, or group of schools, to achieve as effectively on its own. -
