    The “Baseball Rule” Faces an Interesting Test One of the many beauties of baseball, affectionately known as “America’s pastime,” is the ability for people to come to the stadium and become ingrained in the action and get the chance to interact with their heroes. Going to a baseball game, as opposed to going to most other sporting events, truly gives a fan the opportunity to take part in the action. However, this can come at a steep price as foul balls enter the stands at alarming speeds and occasionally strike spectators. According to a recent study, approximately 1,750 people get hurt each year by batted 1 balls at Major League Baseball (MLB) games, which adds up to twice every three games. The 2015 MLB season featured many serious incidents that shed light on the issue of 2 spectator protection. ​ This has led to heated debates among the media, fans, and even players and 3 managers as to what should be done to combat this issue. ​ Currently, there is a pending class action lawsuit against Major League Baseball (“MLB”). Silver Bells in the City is an annual celebration to kick off the holiday season in CONTACT downtown Lansing. This year’s theme is the ‘80s, commemorating the Mindy Biladeau, Director of Special 35th anniversary of Silver Bells, which began in 1984. Events & Programming Dan Petry is a former Major League Baseball pitcher for the Detroit LEPFA Tigers from 1979 to 1987 and from 1990 to 1991. He also pitched for 517-908-4037 the California Angels, Atlanta Braves, and Boston Red Sox. Petry [email protected] helped the Tigers win the 1984 World Series. He was elected to the American League All-Star team in 1985. He currently serves as a studio analyst for Detroit Tigers on Fox Sports Detroit. David Rozema [rose'-muh] hails from Grand Rapids, Michigan and is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1977 through 1986 for the Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers. He debuted in the major leagues at age 20 with the Detroit Tigers in 1977. Rozema finished his rookie season with a 15-7 record. In 1984, he played on the Tigers team that won the World Series.

    Search Home News Events Elected Officials Departments Online Services About Taylor Contact 32nd annual Junior League Baseball World Series games start Sunday in Taylor TAYLOR, MICHIGAN – The best teams of 13­ and 14­year­old baseball players from around the globe will compete for the world championship starting today at the 2012 Junior League World Series at Taylor’s Heritage Park. All 10 teams arrived in Taylor over the weekend after achieving state, national and regional championships in the United States and other nations. Four World Series games will be played each day Sunday through Thursday, August 12­16, leading into the International and USA title games on Friday and the world championship game on Saturday. Sunday’s Schedule: Noon – Franklin Square, New York (USA East champion) vs. Manhattan Beach, California (USA West) 2:45 PM – Oranjestad, Aruba (Latin America) vs. Tainan City, Chinese Taipei (Asia­Pacific) 5:30 PM – Rockledge, Florida (USA Southeast) vs. Corpus Christi, Texas (USA Southwest) 8:15 PM – San Nicholas de Los Garza, Nuevo Leon (Mexico national champions) vs. Calgary, Alberta (Canada national champions) Two teams – North Canton, Ohio (USA Central), and Lazio, Italy (regional champion of Europe, the Middle East and Africa) – have the day off and will play their opening games on Monday. This is the 32nd straight year that the Junior League World Series is being played in Taylor, where it was founded in 1981. The World Series is considered the “older brother” of the more famous Little League World Series for 12­year­olds played in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
