See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whqBzxa8RZk. Well done to AthsVic for another great video production. David has now produced so many walking videos (13 in total) that I thought it time I put a quick link up via a webpage. I have added links to our own VRWC YouTube videos as well for completeness. See http://www.vrwc.org.au/vrwcvideos.html. VRWC ROADWALKS, MIDDLE PARK, SATURDAY 27 AUGUST 2011 I was not at Middle Park on Saturday so thanks to Mark Donahoo for forwarding the results to me for this week's newsletter. I was quite surprised to see 63 walkers in action the week after the National Championships - this must be some sort of a record for this late in the season. Conditions were excellent and the races look to have been keenly contested. Thanks also to Terry Swan for the many fine photos, some of which I have used. See http://vrwc.org.au/coppermine/. This week I will reverse the order and give our younger walkers the star billing. -

Tom Bosworth
Record Tom Bosworth th Race Walking 6 at Rio Olympics in a new August 2016 British Record Race Walking Record – August 2016 Over the next two kilometres, Bosworth sped up and was within eight minutes for the next 2km split around the Pontal course. But Matsunaga was race walking even faster and had closed the gap to two seconds, while China’s Zelin Cai decided to protectively cover the two men in front of him and had pushed hard to remove himself from the pack. World Race Walking Team Championships silver medallist Cai continued to motor and overtook Matsunaga and then Bosworth but The XXXI Olympic Games, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil the pack also started to increase their pace, consuming Bosworth and Men’s 20km (Fri. 12th Aug.): Despite the presence of Olympic Matsunaga just before the 14km checkpoint and Cai shortly after, champion Chen Ding and world champion Miguel Angel Lopez, the making it a 12-man mass together entering the final quarter of the pre-race favourite on current form was China’s Wang Zhen and the race. winner at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships in The pack – which also contained local hope and Brazilian record- Rome back in May didn’t disappoint. holder Caio Bonfim, who was getting rousing cheers every step of the way – was reduced to nine over the next lap with Cai, whose cadence can best be described as a resembling a boxer doing his road workout, pushing the pace at the front. This remained the state of affairs until Wang, a much more fluent and elegant race walker than his teammate, made his decisive bid for glory with three kilometres to go. -

This was the only A qualifier done on the day in the horrendous conditions and it was her third win in a row in this annual championship. This confirmed her Olympic spot and was a dominant display. This week, I am going to balance the equation and announce my walker of the week as Jared Tallent. Jared and Claire flew out on the Sunday morning after their heroics in Hobart and both contested 20km races a week later in what was a big weekend carnival of walking in Chihuahua in Mexico – and both were successful, earning silvers in their respective events. Jared fought it out with Eder Sanchez of Mexico, taking silver in 1:21:50 while Claire fought it out with Portuguese walker Ines Henriques, also taking silver in 1:33:21. You can read about both their performances later in the newsletter. Jared and Claire with their second prize cheques in Chihuahua, along with Satoshi Yanagisawa (photo from Satoshi) MORE WALKERS ADDED TO THE AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC TEAM With the Australian T&F Olympic Trials completed last weekend in Melbourne, Athletics Australia has now released the names of the next group of Olympic selections and the walkers are to the fore. -

Iaaf Comments on Independent Commission's Report #1
IAAF COMMENTS ON INDEPENDENT COMMISSION'S REPORT #1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY On 9 November 2015, the Independent Commission issued a report (the IC Report) that set out evidence of widespread doping by Russian athletes, but also suggested that 'particular highly placed members and officials of IAAF' may have taken bribes to delay the bringing of anti-doping charges against certain athletes in 2012. On that basis, the Independent Commission suggested that it had 'identified systemic failures within the IAAF and Russia that prevent or diminish the possibility of an effective anti-doping program …'. These allegations of corruption by individuals formerly associated with the IAAF are truly abhorrent, and the IAAF cannot, and does not, seek to avoid or downplay them in any way. The IAAF wishes to salute the courage of the whistle-blowers (including its own staff members) who have helped to expose the wrongdoing described in the IC Report. It will do everything in its power to punish the wrongdoers and to reform its own systems to make sure that no one can ever again interfere improperly with its anti-doping procedures. However, the IAAF believes it is also important to point out that: ñ No doping case has been covered up by the IAAF. All cases that should have been pursued were pursued and all cases that should have been sanctioned were sanctioned in accordance with IAAF Rules and the World Anti-Doping Code. ñ The IAAF is aware of four cases where (as the Independent Commission suggests) there were unexplained and suspicious delays in the prescribed results management process. -
