Kern River No. 3 FERC Project No. 2290 Kern River No. 3 Relicensing Special Status Species List The geographic location and elevation of the Project and vegetation communities, as well as, other habitat features present to determine those species that may potentially occur in the Project area. Project area is defined as the geographic area comprised of the lands and waters within the FERC Project Boundary in addition to lands immediately adjacent to the FERC Project Boundary. Special Status Wildlife The following list of Special Status Wildlife Species was generated using the following information sources: • California Natural Diversity Data Base: USGS 7.5-minute topographic Quadrangles were queried for special Status wildlife species: Fairview and Kernville, Sentinel Peak, Durrwood Creek, Bonita Meadows, Sirretta Peak, Cannell Peak, Weldon, Lake Isabella North, Alta Sierra, Tobias Peak, and Johnsondale. • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) Information for Planning and Conservation System (IPaC) website (USFWS 2020) The resulting list was evaluated to determine which wildlife species occur or may potentially occur in the Project area. Table 1 provides the resulting list of Special Status Wildlife Species and Table 2 lists the U.S. Forest Service Species of Conservation Concern. Watch list and no status species were not included, unless requested by one of the resource agencies. 1 Kern River No. 3 FERC Project No. 2290 Table 1 Kern No. 3 Special Status Species List Species Federal Status State Status Bombus crotchii – Candidate Endangered Crotch bumble bee Plebulina emigdionis FSCC – San Emigdio blue butterfly Amphibians Batrachoseps bramei FSCC – Fairview slender salamander Batrachoseps robustus Included by Request of - Kern Plateau salamander USFWS Batrachoseps simatus FSCC ST Kern Canyon slender salamander Rana boylii BLM_S CDFW _SSC foothill yellow-legged frog Rana muscosa Endangered Endangered southern mountain yellow-legged frog Reptiles Anniella campi CDFW _SSC southern Sierra legless lizard Anniella spp. CDFW _SSC California legless lizard Emys marmorata BLM_S CDFW _SSC western pond turtle Birds Accipiter gentilis BLM_S CDFW _SSC northern goshawk Agelaius tricolor USFWS_BCC Threatened tricolored blackbird BLM_S CDFW _SSC Buteo swainsoni USFWS_BCC Threatened Swainson's hawk BLM_S Coccyzus americanus occidentalis Threatened Endangered western yellow-billed cuckoo USFWS_BCC BLM_S Cypseloides niger USFWS_BCC CDFW _SSC black swift Dendragapus fuliginosus howardi – CDFW _SSC Mount Pinos sooty grouse Empidonax traillii extimus Endangered Endangered southwestern willow flycatcher Gymnogyps californianus Endangered Endangered California Condor Icteria virens – CDFW _SSC yellow-breasted chat Setophaga petechia USFWS_BCC CDFW _SSC yellow warbler Vireo bellii pusillus Endangered Endangered least Bell's vireo Mammals Antrozous pallidus BLM_S CDFW _SSC pallid bat 2 Kern River No. 3 FERC Project No. 2290 Table 1 Kern No. 3 Special Status Species List Species Federal Status State Status Aplodontia rufa californica – CDFW _SSC Sierra Nevada mountain beaver Corynorhinus townsendii FSCC CDFW _SSC Townsend's big-eared bat BLM_S Eumops perotis californicus BLM_S CDFW _SSC western bonneted bat (western mastiff bat) Gulo gulo Proposed Threatened Threatened California wolverine CDFW _FP Martes caurina sierrae FSCC – Sierra marten Onychomys torridus tularensis BLM_S CDFW _SSC Tulare grasshopper mouse Pekania pennant BLM_S Threatened fisher - West Coast DPS CDFW _SSC Taxidea taxus – CDFW _SSC American badger Notes: USFWS BLM BCC Birds of Conservation S Sensitive USFS CDFW FSCC Forest Species of Conservation Concern FP Fully Protected SSC Species of Special Concern. 3 Kern River No. 3 FERC Project No. 2290 Table 2 US Forest Service: Sequoia National Forest Species of Conservation Concern Invertebrates Tight Coin Ammonitella yatesii Behr’s metalmark Apodemia virgulti davenporti San Emigdio blue Plebulina emigdionis Boisduval’s blue - Plebejus icarioides inyo Tehachapi fritillary Speyeria egleis tehachapina Amphibians Gregarious slender salamander Batrachoseps gregarius Fairview slender salamander Batrachoseps bramei Kings River slender salamander Batrachoseps regius Yellow-blotched salamander Ensatina eschscholtzii croceater Kern Canyon slender salamander Batrachoseps simatus Birds American peregrine falcon Falco peregrinus anatum Bald eagle Haliaeetus leucocephalus California spotted owl Strix occidentalis occidentalis Great gray owl Strix nebulosa Kern red-winged blackbird Agelaius phoeniceus aciculatus Tricolored blackbird Agelaius tricolor Willow flycatcher Empidonax traillii brewsteri And Empidonax traillii adastus Mammals Yellow-eared pocket mouse Perognathus mollipilosus xanthonotus Sierra marten Martes caurina sierrae Townsend’s big-eared bat Corynorhinus townsendii Fringed myotis Myotis thysanodes 4 Kern River No. 3 FERC Project No. 2290 Special Status Plant Species The following list of Special Status Plant Species was generated using the following information sources: • California Natural Diversity Data Base and California Native Plant Society Inventory of Rare and Endangered Plants of California: USGS 7.5-minute topographic Quadrangles were queried for special Status wildlife species: Fairview and Kernville, Sentinel Peak, Durrwood Creek, Bonita Meadows, Sirretta Peak, Cannell Peak, Weldon, Lake Isabella North, Alta Sierra, Tobias Peak, and Johnsondale. • Regional Forester’s Sensitive Plant Species List (Sequoia National Forest) The resulting list was then evaluated to determine which plant species occur or may potentially occur in the Project area.
