    The White Lightning WL 10,000 and WL 5,000 Flash Units Operating Instructions WARNINGS: To avoid potentially lethal conditions, this unit must be connected to a 3-wire grounded outlet. Do not operate with two-wire extension cords or use an adaptor to connect to ungrounded outlets. This unit contains high voltages and internal components that can store dangerous voltages even when the unit is unplugged. The unit contains no user serviceable parts and should not be disassembled, except by a qualified technician. The flashtube and modeling lamp can get extremely hot. To change lamps, turn the unit off, then unplug power cord from the outlet. Allow the unit to cool, and use insulating gloves to remove or replace lamps. Do not allow finger oils to contact the lamps as this can cause excess heating and premature lamp failure. Before attempting to operate the unit, ensure that it is securely mounted to a light stand or other suitable mechanism. In this work, the design of a simple deposition system, inserted into the reactor, is introduced. A controlled fame reactor is employed in the present investigation. The system was optimized for the production of carbon nanoparticles including fuorescent nanocarbons. Blue and green fuorescent carbon could be easily separated from the carbon nanoparticles by extraction with organic solvents and characterized by advanced chemical (size exclusion chromatography and mass spectrometry) and spectroscopic analysis. The blue fuorescent carbon comprised a mixture of molecular fuorophores and aromatic domains; the green fuorescent carbon was composed of aromatic domains (10–20 aromatic condensed rings), bonded and/or turbostratically stacked together. The green-fuorescent carbon nanodots produced in the fame reactor were insoluble in water but soluble in N-methylpyrrolidinone and showed excitation- independent luminescence. These results provide insights for a simple and controlled synthesis of carbon nanodots with specifc and versatile features, which is a promising pathway for their use in quite diferent applicative sectors of bioimaging. Te new class of luminescent quantum dots named carbon dots (CDs) has drawn a lot of attention since the discovery of carbon fuorescent nanoparticles into arc discharge soot in 20041 and the frst attempt of synthesis2. CDs are eco-friendly candidates aiming at replacing both the semiconductor quantum nanodots and the organic dyes for biolabeling and bioimaging, as they ofer advantages in terms of their low toxicity, biocompatibility and chemical stability.
