    District at a Glance Brief District Profile District Anantnag is one of the oldest districts of the valley and covered the entire south Kashmir before its bifurcation into Anantnag and Pulwama in 1979. The districts of Anantnag and Pulwama later got sub-divided into Kulgam and Shopian, in 2007. The districts of Pulwama and Kulgam lie on the north and north-west of District Anantnag, respectively. The district of Ganderbal and Kargil touch its eastern boundary and the district of Kishtawar meets on its southern boundary whileas District Doda touches its west land strip. The population of the district, as per census 2011, is 1078692 (10.79 lac) souls, comprising of 153640 households, with a gender distribution of 559767 (5.60 lac) males and 518925 (5.19 lac) females and as per the natural arrangement the district has 927 females against 1000 males while as it is 1000:889 at the state level. The Rural, Urban constitution of the populations stands in the ratio of 74:26 as against 73:27 for the state. 1 District at a Glance The district consists of 386 inhabited and 09 un-inhabited revenue villages. Besides, there is one Municipal Council and 09 Municipal Committees in the district.     Tulip garden of Srinagar March 27, 2021 In News: Asia’s largest tulip garden overlooking the famous Dal Lake in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir was thrown open to the public on Thursday 23, 2021, marking the beginning of the new tourism season in the valley. About Tulip garden of Srinagar Formerly known as Siraj Bagh, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden was opened in 2008 by then chief minister of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state Ghulam Nabi Azad. The idea of the garden, spread over 30 hectares in the foothills of snow-clad Zabarwan range. Tulip Garden Festival in Srinagar where nearly 15 lakh flowers of more than 64 varieties.Apart from tulips, many other species of flowers – hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus have been added. Garden is built on a sloping ground in a terraced fashion consisting of seven terraces. Tulip festival: Annual celebration that aims to showcase the range of flowers in the garden as a part of tourism efforts by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. It is organized during the onset of spring season in Kashmir valley. About Zabarwan Range Sub-mountain range between Pir Panjal and Great Himalayan Range. Located in the central part of the Kashmir Valley. The Highest Peak of this range is Mahadev Peak at 13,013 feet (3,966 m). The Shankaracharya Temple is built on the edge of the central part of the Zabarwan Range. Dachigam National Park: Main feature of the range.Park holds the last viable population of Kashmir stag (Hangul), Park also has the largest population of black bear in Asia.

    PRESS RELEASE For immediate release National Consultative Workshop on; “Impacts of Climate Change on Indus Basin: Coping Strategies for Pakistan” Pakistan, 20 May 2010 (IUCN) A national consultative workshop titled: ‘Impacts of Climate Change on Indus Basin: Coping Strategies for Pakistan’ was organized by IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature in collaboration with International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Islamabad today. The workshop was organized under an initiative of the ADB to address climate change challenge and to reduce vulnerabilities of countries in Asia. The aim of this initiative was to encourage regional cooperation on climate change, strengthen ADB Developing Member Countries’ response to climate change adaptation, and mainstream climate change adaptation considerations at Asian Development Bank (ADB). The objective of the workshop was to have thorough analyses of the current knowledge to assess the gaps and the opportunities for future initiatives. The other purpose of this workshop was to bring together all the stakeholders on one platform for strengthening relationships and forging new partnerships between different government and non-governmental institutions. Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad, Advisor, Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan was the chief guest) In his remarks, he said that Indus basin has crucial importance and is also ]being hit hard by the impacts of the changing climate. The country is facing abnormal weather patterns in the form of late winter and spring rains that has negative effects on the agriculture sector and also on the overall environment. The report complied by the Planning Commission’s Task Force on Climate Change has set a road map for moving in the right directioin to achieve economic development in an environmentally sustainable manner.
