They were given the opportunity to see the crown jewels and visit all the towers. All the year sevens that went on the trip said they had an amazing time. Some people gave us their thoughts: Callum Watson in 7D1 said, ‘It was very interesting. It was cool going round all the old buildings and seeing the crown jewels.’ Amelia Bell said ‘It was great fun and very interesting and loved finding out lots about the history and how different places around the towers got their names.’ Maximus Felton stated, ‘I thought it was a great experience to see the history of kings and queens.’ 4 Year 9 Duxford Trip - by Amelia Dean When we were finished, Mr Harvey, who was with us, took On Friday 22nd April, the majority of Year 9 visited the a few of us to see the Concorde plane, which is the fastest Imperial War Museum in Duxford for an educational visit plane in the world. We were able to go inside it, which was about the World Wars. very good because we got to experience an old-fashioned plane interior. It was very narrow, though! The Duxford War Museum was an original airfield and base for British RAF (Royal Air Force) pilots during the First and Overall, the trip was very educational and interesting, and Second World War. At the museum, there are real artefacts I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more from the wars, including a wide range of artillery and aircraft. about the wars and its aircraft. When we arrived at Duxford, we split into our groups and were taken off on our separate ways. Our group was scheduled for a tour first, so we met with a staff member to start the tour. We started the tour in a wartime-themed classroom, complete with chalkboards and squeaky, wooden chairs. We were all assigned an object that was of some relevance to the war (I had a RAF pilot’s glove), and we began our tour around the site. Along the way, the staff member explained each part of the site as we walked, which included an operations room and an air raid shelter. She also took an object that was relevant to each area from the group as we walked. When the tour was over, Mrs Hay, who was my group’s leader, took us back to one of the hangars to look at some of the planes. They were very interesting because there were several different types of planes, in a variety of sizes. After that, we sat down and ate our lunch and chatted with our friends. Aspiration Charity Week - by Callum Watson So What Went On? Throughout the whole week there were wristbands, hats, pens, keyrings and cakes sold. People participated in activities as well. There were a wide range of things, such as: Lip sync battle, sponsored walk, ice-cream sales and the non-uniform day on Friday. What was it raised for? - How much was raised? The charity that the money was raised for was The Smile Of Arran. In total the amount of money that was raised was £1,735 and more is still coming in. A Little Bit About The Trust This trust is supported by Arran’s mum and some of the money that goes to The Smile Of Arran goes to charities like Cancer Research. Arran had been suffering bad headaches on and off, one day he went to the opticians to see if he needed glasses, but they told him and his mum that he had a tumour growing behind his eyes… So, this charity is supporting Arran’s family and other charities. So donate money if you want to, this would help The Smile Of Arran so much. 5 The Ramsey Writers The Fallen City - A Short Story by William Birch But they do not get the people back - that’s my job, I am the As I watched the city fall and crumble, the burning nuclear one who determines if people should live or not - sort of a acid on my skin ripped to shreds and I felt my end. determinator. 4 months earlier... Walking out of the dome I noticed a screaming from about a mile away.
