Basketball and Hockey Hawks To Play In
Two Tournaments
HOCKEY: Waterloo Lutheran University basketball and hockey teams will
be participants in two tournaments. The hockey Hawks and the
University of Waterloo Warriors are co-hosts of the second Dominion Life
Hockey tournament at the Waterloo Arena on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24 and 25.
Other participants in the tournament include Carleton University and Lake Superior State College from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
The tournament was last held two years ago when the team from
Sir George Williams University of Montreal won the tourney.
In the opening game the Warriors play Lake Superior State College at 6:30 followed by the Golden Hawk-Carleton game at 9 p.m. The con-solation and the final will be played Saturday evening with the losers from Friday night s game meeting in the consolation and the winners of the Friday games shooting for the tournament championship.
The hockey Hawks played their second game of the young Ontario
Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule on Wednesday evening against the University of Windsor Lancers. In their opening game of the league season the Hawks dumped the Osgoode Hall Owls 8-3 in Toronto. more Following the Dominion Life tournament, the Hawks host Brock
University in a non conference game at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Thurs., Nov. 30.
BASKETBALL: The basketball Hawks opened their 1967-1968 season on
Tuesday night when they hosted Pikesville College of
Pikesville, Kentucky. On Saturday, Nov. 25, the Hawks travel to Windsor to play the top basketball team in Canada last year, the University of Windsor Lancers.
The next home game for the Hawks is Tuesday, Nov. 28 when they host York University Windigoes in an O.I.A.A. conference game. The
Hawks are the defending champions of the O.I.A.A. and have won the championship for the past four seasons.
While amassing this championship record the Hawks won 48 of 49 league basketball games.
The basketball Hawks, under head coach Howard Lockhart, will participate in the first International Basketball Tournament at
Fredonia, New York on Dec. 1 and 2.
The four teams participating in the tournament will be Fredonia
State College and Geneseo State College, both in New York, McMaster
University and Waterloo Lutheran. Fredonia State College is hosting the tournament this year to celebrate their centennial.
CURLING: The varsity curling teams will be selected at the Glenbriar
Curling Club on Sunday, Nov. 26. The men s and women s teams will be selected from a playoff on Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
VOLLEYBALL: The boy s varsity volleyball team continues to work out in the Theatre-Auditorium in preparation for a tournament in Toronto, Dec. 2,
The women s varsity volleyball and basketball teams will travel to
