Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon look like possible champions with CWSC still in the favorite role. Returning from last year's fine Team are eighteen lettermen and some of them are top performers. Dave Walker, Roy Nail and Dick Bedlington took four titles last spring. Steve Slavens was 2md in 100 and 220 behind Tom Lines of Central. Terry Kelly will try to repeat in the steeplechase along with Ed Davis and Ray Columbo who won the high jump and pole vault respectively. New wildcats have excellent credentials from Green River c.c., ,we have Mike Behrbaum who does several events including long jump of 24 1 2" and 53.7 in intermediate hurdles. Terry Sayles ran 48.6 in the quarter. Terry Woodard from Clark has run 9.7 and led o1f the state championship 440 relay team. Tacoma c.c. sent Dave Morris a 15 foot vaulter and Terry Rice,a miler. Terry BoucK is a 14 1 3" vaulter from Highline and Bill Bloom was our best cross country runner from Spokane Falls. Two frosh jumpers are Craig Jones of Hudson Bay and Rod Jeske of EllensburgLo•IC G-oes>D· A team is as good as its relays and Central Washington has potential. Behrbaum, Woodard, Slavens, Walker, Volland, Sayles, Nail and Swisher could put together good relay teams. The scheol records of 41.2 and 3:12.8 could easily fall. 1. 1971 c.w.s.c. adidas Olympic Games Heritage 1920 Herzogenaurach Adi Dassler Adi Dassler made his first ‘handmade’ training shoe in his parents’ 20-square metre washroom. 1928 Amsterdam Lina Radke Eight years on and adi's shoes made their debut at the Amsterdam Olympic Games with immediate success as Karoline Radke-Batschauer “Lina Radke” won Gold in the first ever Women’s 800m competition in World Record time. 1932 Los Angeles Arthur Jonath As the Great Depression gripped the world, Hollywood welcomed the Olympic Games and Adi Dassler crafted a new track spike, featuring stitched “stripes” and reinforced eye-stays. Two athletes won medals in Adi’s shoes: Germany’s Arthur Jonath and American Wilhelmina von Bremen both clinched gold in their respective 100m finals. 1936 Berlin Jesse Owens As politics and sport collided in Berlin, Adi Dassler remained focused on making the best footwear products for athletes including James Cleveland “Jesse” Owens. The young American was the most successful athlete in Berlin, winning four gold medals in front of Adolf Hitler in shoes that boasted specially positioned spikes and low-cut upper. 1948 London Emil Zátopek Post World War II the Olympic Games were seen as a way of reuniting the world through athletic competition and the spirit of true sportsmanship. In a glimpse of things to come, Emil Zátopek, the young “Czech Locomotive”, ran to Gold in the 10,000m and Silver in the 5,000m wearing Dassler’s lightweight shoes. In the same year, “adidas” was registered as the brand with the three stripes. 1952 Helsinki Bob Mathias In one of the greatest performances of all time, Emil Zátopek pulled off an incredible triple at the Helsinki Olympic Games winning Gold in the 5,000m, 10,000m, and the marathon over the course of seven days.

And we wish a special welcome to all parents, coaches, and friends – all of whose support is invaluable. Our organization, the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation, does more than present nation- al-caliber track and field and cross country events. We also actively support clinics and other meets with substantial financial commitments. Over the years, the NSAF has grown from helping a few athletes to one that annually enables over 10,000 athletes to participate in various meets and activities. This is the 36th edition of the event, which has had various names since its inception in 1984. We are again happy to have New Balance as our title sponsor.
