NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

2014-2015 NSS unit of STET Women’s College conducted Campus Cleaning on 20 .06. 2014. The members of the unit were guided by the NSS Program officer S.Malini, J.Porchelvi, with this motive all the volunteers of NSS unit spread across our college . All the volunteers are distribute Drinking Water 0n 21.06.2014 at Pamani, Mannargudi. The NSS Volunteer ask about Importance of various aspects of safe drinking water, appropriate technologies, water quality standards, testing the quality of water, waste management, wise management of local water resources, etc. We conducted a Temple cleaning Programme on 26th june 2014 under the guidance of NSS Programme officer at Thiruramaeswaram temple premises. All the NSS Volunteers were engaged in this cleaning programme. The NSS Programme officers divided the NSS Volunteers into several groups. Each group members were allocated with a particular area for cleaning. Three groups were asked to collect all the stones from the ground separately in different sacs We are organized on 09.07.2014. The blood groups of all first year students were identified in association with STET Women’s College Mannargudi. The principal distribute the identification card to the students Every man need the oxygen for their life and Trees are the foremost source of oxygen as well trees helps to reduce the level of co2. As we all know that the whole world is facing the problem of global warming and to recover from such problem planting the trees has become one of the most important today’s aspects. The NSS Unit of STET Women’s College, Mannargudi organized “Tree Plantation” programme. “MY EARTH – MY DUTY” under the National Service Scheme (NSS) on 23.07.2014 in the college premises. It was attended by NSS Programme Coordinator, 30 student volunteers.NSS volunteers planted more than 50 trees . The NSS unit of our College has organized Lecture of “Rain Water Harvesting” on 07.08. 2014. He sensitized our student about problem of water and importance of rain water harvesting.

It is necessary to raise the world's awareness of literary issues that are faced by people all over the world and also to endorse campaigns that help increase literacy for all people. We are conducted “How to use incinerator in properly” awareness to the college students on 09.08. 2014. NSS student told about the incinerator importance. We are celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor on 15th August, 2014 in the Middle school Sundarakkottai ground with the staff, students and parents to mark the 68th Independence Day . On this special occasion, the programme started with flag hoisting by the School Head master Mr. S. Krishnamoorthy The NSS Volunteer give sweets to the school students. NSS Units of STET Women’s College Mannargudi, celebrated a festival of yoga and wellbeing on the occasion of International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2014. Almost 4000 participants took part in that event. All the NSS Volunteers, teaching and non teaching staff members of the institute, and students participated in the event. Participants of all age groups participated in the event with great enthusiasm. A yoga teacher Mrs S.Kalavathi , accompanied by 4 trained volunteers was there to conduct the yoga practice. NSS unit of STET Women’s College along with Rotary club of Mannargudi organized blood donation camp held at TRG Mahal , Mannargudi on 15.09.2014. Nearly 54 dstudents donated 262 unit of blood in the camp. NSS unit and Rotaract club of STET STET Women’s College donated dresses to the adopted villages Rishiyur and Nanmangalam during Pongal festisval. NSS conducted Awareness Rally on Voter’s Day in and around the Mannargudi down. As part of this all the NSS Volunteers are made a rally in the down and interacted with the community and created awareness among the public about the importance of the voting. And also informed all the young people for enroll themselves as voters. NSS volunteers heralded the activity of the Agricultural Camp. NSS Programme officer taught students the basic lessons of Agricultural Camp.

The above club 1, 80,000 amount spent dress donation. NSS unit of STET Women’s College along with Rotary club of Mannargudi organized “Blood Donation Camp” held at TRG Mahal , Mannargudi on 30.11.2015 and our students donated blood. Dengue Awareness fieldwork was organised by NSS Unit on 23 Dec 2015. Around 20 volunteers from the NSS Unit. The residents of the locale were distributed with awareness pamphlets and they were given counseling to observe Dengue awareness to enjoy disease free life. NSS unit and Rotaract club of STET STET Women’s College donated dresses on 11.01.2016 to the adopted villages Rishiyur and Nanmangalam during Pongal festisval. NSS conducted Awareness Rally on Voter’s Day in and around the Mannargudi down. As part of this all the NSS Volunteers are made a rally in the down and interacted with the community and created awareness among the public about the importance of the voting. The renewable such as dry leaves, twigs, papers etc. and non- renewable wastes such as carry bags, and plastic items etc. were collected separately. World Breastfeeding week every year from August 1 to August 7. NSS Unit celebrated the world breastfeeding week and also Awareness creates to keelathiruppalakudi village People. To encourage breastfeeding and create awareness regarding its various health benefits for mothers and babies. The main objective of this Programme was to donate blood to people in need and to create awareness. Blood campaign was conducted by Rotary club of Mannargudi and NSS volunteers, NSS unit of STET Women’s College joined hands with this organization to donate blood to those who are in need. The Government Raja Mirasdar Hospital Thanjavur Tamil Nadu which had come to collect blood from our college students. The programme was headed by the NSS Programme officer MS. S.Malini, Assistat Professor along with the assistance of the members of NSS. The purpose of this campaign was to collect blood from students who voluntarily took step to donate blood. NSS Unit was conducted the Essay competition on 02.10.2017 on the topic “Agimsaye Autham”. On 03.10.2017 and 04.10.2017 NSS Volunteer to create awareness about dengue fever to each UG and PG classes in STET Women’s College. The main objective of this Programme was to donate dress to poor School Students. Dress Donation camp was conducted by NSS volunteers, NSS unit of STET Women’s College and Rotary Club of Mannargudi. The Programme was headed by the NSS Program officer MS. G.Geetha , Assistat Professor along with the assistance of the members of NSS. The Rs 3,00000 amout are used in dress donation. The Penland school, Pamani, Painganadu, Sundarakkottai, Karuvakurchi, Melanatham, Alangottai, Keelathiruppalakudi Schools are benefited. The main motivate for this camp was based on, to make the villages free from open defecation .The Volunteers of the NSS unit performed many other activities – awareness programmes as Temple Cleaning, tree plantation, First Aid Awareness and Cancer awareness , Natural Herbal medicine etc. The NSS Volunteers 150 students are participated in this programme. All the NSS Volunteers, teaching and non teaching staff members of the institute and students participated in the event. Participants of all age groups participated in the event with great enthusiasm. A yoga teacher Mrs S. Kalavathi, accompanied by 4 trained volunteers was there to conduct the yoga practice. NSS Unit organized to check our first year NSS students blood group. The benefited students are 300. We the Swachh Bharat Internship Team members from Sengamala Thayaar Educational Trust Women’s College located in Mannargudi ,Thiruvarur District of Tamilnadu, conducted 10 days (100 Hours)programme. We spend four days in every villages. Inaugurals were conducted at our College. We started our work at our college premises.

Second day we conducted door to door meet. Based on the family situation and villager’s mentality we convey and insisted our message to the villagers. Third day we conducted waste Management programme and their related activities regarding disposal of waste, Waste Management, how to segregate waste into bio- degradable and non bio- degradable. Fourth day we conducted awareness through drama, folk song etc. In this village some people paid amount for toilet construction work. But it was not constructed and not completed. When we asked them they told they did not know how to approach their officials. For easy understanding we used bit notices posters, demo equipments and other additional aids. Kandithampettai is our second adopted village .we conducted the same programme which we conducted in sundarakkottai village. But people in Kandithampettai villagers are different in nature. They have better grasping power to understand our message. As we are women students, in some field we are commented by some guys. They also criticized us. Keelathiruppalakudi is our third adopted village. We spend our last four days programme there. They are kind hearted. But difficult to accept our message. We realize Even though technology developed, Some messages are not reached to everyone. NSS summer internship camp under Swachh Bharat Mission including 60 registered students of this mission we organized in nearby villages Sundarakkottai, Kandithempettai, and Keelathiruppalakudi about the principles of cleanliness, usage of toilets, solid waste management, significant of plantations where inculcated the villages through survey and rally. We proudly said, panchayat union elementaty school at keelathiruppalakudi was painted by our team estimated Rs. 50,000. World Breastfeeding week every year from August 1 to August 7. NSS Unit and Government Hospital, Ullikkottai jointly celebrated the world breastfeeding week and also Awareness create to keelathiruppalakudi village People. To encourage breastfeeding and create awareness regarding its various health benefits for mothers and babies. 200 Village mother are benefited. NSS Unit of STET women’s College Mannargudi. Mannargudi Pasumai karngal and NSS Unit jointly conducted the “Nam Marangal Thiruvela” exhibition at STET Women’s College. On 05.10.2018 NSS Volunteer to create awareness about dengue fever to each UG and PG classes in STET Women’s College. On 11.10 an awareness on “Voter’s Day Awareness ” were conducted by NSS Unit at STET Women’s College Mannargudi. RDO officer K.Padamavathy and tahsildar sridevi also give awareness to the college students. There are 200 students are benefited. The main objective of this Programme was to donate dress to poor School Students. Dress Donation camp was conducted by NSS volunteers, NSS unit of STET Women’s College and Rotary Club of Mannargudi. 2015-2016 Red Ribbon Club involves in creating awareness about AIDS and we highlighted the importance of blood donation among the students. In this year 260 students voluntarily joined in this club. Our club conducted a blood test camp on 06.07.2015 in Microbiology laboratory to identify the blood group of the 1st year students. The club motivates the students to participate in various intercollegiate competitions. The club conducted drawing competition on “AIDS Free Society” and an Essay competition on “Celebrating life” in the college premises on 21.07.2015. Four Students of Red Ribbon Club participated in International Youth Day Celebrations conducted by Bharathidasan University on 23.07.2015 and presented slogans entitled “Shaping a better future” M.Aarthi, S.Gowri and S.Priyadharshini from III B.Sc. Microbiology won the 1st prize in the International Youth Day - 2015 competition conducted by the District AIDS prevention and control unit, Thiruvarur on 11th and 12th August 2015. Our club organized a special programme on “Role of Youth in AIDS awareness” in which Mr.G.Jayaselan, ICTC counselor, Alangudi delivered a lecture. The club conducted a camp on “Blood Group Testing” for I year UG students on 13.07.2016 along with PG and Research Department of Microbiology at UG laboratory of Microbiology department, in which, totally 1085 students were benefited. Blood donation camp was conducted along with Indian Red Cross Society, Thiruvarur on 10.08.2016. During this camp 94 members donated blood. Our club conducted an Essay competition on “AIDS Awareness in Youth” and Drawing competition on “AIDS Free Society” on 03.09.2016 for the UG students. World AIDS day were observed on 3rd December 2016 and speech competition was conducted for the students and best participants were given prizes. Our club conducted guest lecture programme on 11.01.2017 about “FIGHT AGAINST AIDS” in which, Dr. U.Pugal, Deputy Director of District TB Centre, Thiruvarur, Ms.S.Sumathi, District supervisor of TANSACS and Mr. S.Ramajeyam, ICTC counselor, GH, Vaduvur delivered a speech and clarified various doubts of our club members about HIV and AIDS. As part of AIDS awareness programme, Facial Art competition was conducted on the same day and 30 pairs of students participated and best participants were awarded prizes. Our students P.Kavitha and S.Suganya of I M.Sc., Microbiology secured first place in the event. 2018-2019 The club has been enrolled with 152 students for this academic year. Our RRC members joined in rally conducted by District TB Center, Thiruvarur on World TB Day. The members also participated in competitions conducted by District TB center and created awareness among people through drama, in which Ms.K.Aswini had secured second prize in slogan writing competition, Ms.S.K. Mohanaprabha and K.Madhumitha won prize for their best rangoli. Blood group testing for the first year UG students is being conducted by our club every year with the support of Microbiology department. In this contest, blood group testing were conducted for I year UG students on 04.07.2018. Red Ribbon Club, Youth Red Cross and Consumer citizen club jointly arranged a Blood Donation Camp with the support of Blood Bank, Medical College Hospital, Thivuvarur on 26.07.2018, in which, and 102 members donated their blood. As an extension activity, TB awareness camp was conducted at Panchayat Union Middle School, Rajapaiyanchavadi and students are advised to maintain good health by practicing hygienic habits.100 students were benefitted by this camp on 27.07.2018. 18 students of PG Microbiology were eagerly involved in this program and 2 staff members of our department were co -ordinate them for blood group testing. In which, our students counseled the children in the aspect of importance of blood group analysis in order to reduce their panic.

Apart from that, Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition and Dietetics were involved in testing of heamoglobulin content and aware the children about importance of healthy diet were also given by them.. To observe International youth day, RRC organized competitions to our students on 13.08.2018, in which, Essay competition entitled “Role of youth in AIDS Awareness” and speech competition entitled “HIV prevention” were conducted and best performers were given prizes. Totally 85 students participated in this programme.

To reduce the risk of dengue outbreak, RRC and Department of Biochemistry with other part V clubs of S.T.E.T. Women’s college jointly arranged a “Dengue Awareness Camp” on 29.10.2018 & 30.10.2018 at Sundarakkottai village. The basic preventive measures for dengue were discussed in the camp.

World AIDS Day was observed on 17.12.2018 by arranging AIDS awareness rally and alertness created among the young people in our campus. On the same day RRC students participated in Memes creation conducted by ICTC, TANSACS for world AIDS day observation and took part in AIDS awareness programme. To generate alertness “Tobacco Awareness Rally” was arranged in the college campus on 09.01.2019 and awareness of hazardous effects of tobacco were given. Our Red Ribbon Club along with District TB center, Thiruvarur organized an TB awareness programme on 15.2.2019 at college campus. S Arthi of II B.Sc., Chemistry is selected as the president and S. Abinaya of II B.B.A. is selected as the secretary. The students of our club are involved in various activities such as campus cleaning, tree Plantation’ maintaining herbal garden and polythene free zone in Our environment. Our club orgarized tree plantation prograrmme on 10.07.2015 at Vallankudikadu. Our club members participated in a rally for creating environmental awareness on 31.07.2015 at Kanidthampettai.. Contributed tree saplings to village people of Thirumakkottai on 14.8.2015 and cleaned the Temple on 19.12.2015 at Kandithampettai. Our club organized Rangoli competition on “Eco friendship” on 08.01.2016 in our college premises and best three were selected and awarded prizes and our club conducted a one day camp on l1.01.2016 at Kooppachikkottai village, donated saplings and planted Cleaned the lake, temple, pond and puddle. Our club organized a seminar on “Blue Alert” on 06.02. 16 in which Dr.Arul Jenith Raj, HR. Head in ISSAC foundation Chemai & Sales Head in Royal Enfield, Thanjavur delivered a special talk. Our club conducted Dengue awareness programme on 29.10.2018 & 30.10.2018 in our college and the inhabitants of Sundarakkottai Village Participated in the Awareness programme. Our club organized a one day camp on 26.02.2019 at Kandithempettai Village in which the students of our club cleaned the Temple and Pond. They also contributed saplings to the people, and planted saplings in the village premises.
